Port Blair, May 16: A delegation of Tourist Cab Drivers, who were operating their vehicles as Prepaid Taxis from Veer Savarkar International Airport today called on the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma with their grievances.
They said that a few weeks back the operation of Prepaid Taxis from Veer Savarkar International Airport was stopped, which is not only causing loss to nearly 450 odd Tourist vehicle operators but also causing inconvenience to Tourists. Prepaid Taxis operated from Port Blair airport were considered as affordable and reliable by tourists.
They said that many of them have taken loans from banks to operate tourists’ vehicles but now they are facing difficulties in earning bread for their family members as Prepaid Taxi service was their one of the sources of income.
In this regard, the Member of Parliament today called on the Superintendent of Police of South Andaman along with a delegation of tourist cab drivers. During the meeting the Member of Parliament highlighted the problems being faced by the Cab Operators and Tourists for not operating Prepaid Taxis from the airport.
The Superintendent of Police of South Andaman assured that this problem will be sorted out and within 3 to 4 days the Prepaid Taxis will be operated from Port Blair airport, bringing relief for the visiting Tourists and also bringing income for the tourist cab operators.
