Port Blair, May 24: The team of PS Pahargaon has arrested one person for murdering allegedly his friend at Barat Nagar, Garacharma near the Cremation ground area on May 23, 2023.
According to reports, the police received information about the discovery of a lifeless body of a 35-year-old man inside his residence in Barat Nagar, Garacharma, at approximately 9:30 pm on May 23, 2023. Responding swiftly to the alert, a team of Pahargaon Police officials immediately rushed to the scene.
Local sources informed Andaman Sheekha that on the previous night, both the victim Mr. Swapan Mondal and the accused, identified as Mr. Muruganand, a resident of Shadipur, were present in the same room. The two individuals were known to each other and had planned to consume alcohol and have dinner together.
Unfortunately, an altercation erupted between them due to an undisclosed issue, which quickly escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Muruganand allegedly attacked the deceased, Swapan Mondal, resulting in a grievous head injury. Swapan Mondal succumbed to his injuries on the spot, primarily due to severe blood loss.
Startled by the sounds of the altercation, neighboring residents witnessed the assault and took immediate action. They locked their doors of the room from outside for safety and promptly alerted other nearby individuals. The police were immediately notified, and within minutes, a team from the Pahargaon Police, led by Inspector Mariam, apprehended the accused.
Following detailed interrogations with the deceased’s neighbors and a thorough investigation, the police gathered substantial evidence, leading to the arrest of the accused.
