Port Blair, Aug 05: A day after, the Lt. Governor had urged all the Department to reach to the door steps of General public to listen to their grievance and problems, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Mr. Rupesh Kumar Thakur along with other officers of the District Office visited Guptapara on Saturday.
An interaction was held by the officers with PRI members and general public. Representatives of various departments also participated in the campaign except APWD and Education Department. The DC urged all the departments to participate in the said campaign as most of the issues raised by the villagers pertain to these departments.
The distance of Tehsil Office (Ferrargunj) from villages of Guptapara Panchayat was one of the important issues raised by the villagers. In this connection, it was decided that Tehsildar shall hold camp in Guptapara Panchayat once in a month. For issuance of Islander Identity Card, DC directed to hold a camp from Aug 19 to 22 for which a team will be deputed so that all eligible persons could be issued Islander Card. A meeting to resolve issue of boundary dispute between Forest and Revenue, a meeting will be held on Aug 30, 2012.
The issue of regularization of encroachment and issuance of licence was raised by many persons. In this regard it was clarified that at present no such scheme is there, however their representations would be forwarded for further examination with reference to their eligibility.
The Pradhan, Guptapara, Zilla Parishad Member and PRIs raised other issues like arrangement of adequate water supply to the area, development of tourism, repair of road, construction of road between Phongi Balu Jetty to Bada Balu beach, ferry service to Rutland, allotment of lands for various purposes etc. The issue regarding closing of the approach road to Port Mout school by IRBn was also raised and in this connection DC(SA) decided to hold a meeting on Aug 9 at 4.30 PM with SP(IRBn), Director of Education, Principal, Port Mout School and PRIs to resolve the issue. The DC also inspected the road till Phongi Balu Jetty, it is learnt.
