Port Blair, Mar 20: The two days training of ASHA workers on National Iron Plus Initiative, Home Base Newborn Care & refresher training on all modules of ASHA concluded on 17.03.2017. The training was organized by the District Health Society, South Andaman under Union Territory Health Mission in the auditorium of the Tagore collage.
On the last day Dr. Kathpalia, (Obst. &Gynae.)HoD, ANIIMS, Port Blair gave a brief outlook on the follow-up proceeding for pregnant ladies and also informed about the situation when pregnant ladies should be referred for health centres.
Further, Shri B. Nagendra, District Programme Manager, District Health Society (SA) present on the occasion, informed the ASHA workers that the pregnant ladies who come for delivery to health centres are entitled to free transport to & fro for institutional delivery, for which they may ask vehicle from health centre or may hire the vehicle for which District Health Society will reimburse the same. Further, he requested the HoD (Gynae. Unit), ANIIMS to allow the ASHA workers to accompany the pregnant ladies during the delivery at G.B Pant Hospital, so that ASHA workers can also learn the process of safe birth attender. The HoD (Gynae. Unit), ANIIMS has agreed the same and ensure that he will provide all possible support to the ASHA workers to upkeep their skills.
Thereafter, Ms. Teresa Lakra, Public Health Nurse briefly informed about all aspects of Home Base Newborn Care & other ASHA modules. Altogether 59 ASHA workers of South Andaman, except interisland ASHA workers, attended the training.
