E Arun

Port Blair, May 24: Like God, often Administration works in a mysterious way, which is beyond our understanding of common man. In yet another controversial decision the Administration has recently sent a senior officer to Mainland for training, knowing fully well that he is going to retire in 2014.
According to sources this time the beneficiary was a senior officer in Personnel Section, who has been sent to Mysore and New Delhi for training. As per records the said officer will retire in 2014 and sadly for getting benefits of his expertise the Administration will have to either extend his service or appoint him back as consultant for some more years.
As everyone knows for such trainings Government spends a lot of money, which is actually Tax Payers’ money but in government system, who cares about saving public money.
“The Administration should select only those employees for training in mainland who can serve these Islands for atleast 10 to 15 years. Most of the time young employees do not even get the intimation for any such openings for training in Mainland India,” said an angry staff of secretariat, who does not want his name to be quoted.
This is not the only such case in Administration there are dozens of dozens of such cases, where employees who have got chance for specialized training have either retired or left job after the training. Many employees who get specialized training do not even get chance to work on that particular field, hence the entire training goes waste.
“Most of the time, in e-governance meetings, departments send those staffs who have very less knowledge about computer or e-governance. When the government is spending money for training let the right personget the training,” said another employee of Administration.
However, when Andaman Sheekha contacted Mr. Sheo Pratap Singh, Secretary Personnel he justified the training for the particular senior officer saying “Training is a continuous process. Promotion happens according to the RR, like seniority and after the promotion it is compulsory to go out for training,” Mr. Singh added.
But the million dollar questions are that from such trainings, who will get benefit in Andamans? Who is accountable for such gross wastage of public money?

The Fire Brigade Vehicle and employees of Electricity Deparrtment took no time to reach the spot. However, the flare disappeared as soon as the line was cut off by staff of Electricity Department.

Port Blair, May 24: Some of the Anganwadi workers met the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma and stated that they all hail from very poor family background and somehow managing their needs with the help of the small amount of honorarium, which they get from Anganwadi.

They alleged that there is no fix date for the payment and hence they face a lot of hardship in running their family. They requested the President of PCC to find out a way so that they get their payments at a fixed date.

Accordingly Sharma has written a letter of request to the Director Social Welfare Board to fix a date of disbursement of their honorarium by the first week of every month, so that these workers get their honorarium at a particular date, which will be very much beneficial to all of them.

Port Blair, May 22: The Census 2011 final population data of Andaman and Nicobar islands has been released today. The Director of Census Operations, N K Sharma has released it at the Directorate of Census operations at Port Blair among media persons and others.
Releasing the data, he announced the total population of the islands as 3,80,581 comprising 2,02,871 males and 1,77,710 females with the growth rate of 6.86 per cent. Despite the increase in the general population, the population of tribal people was decreased from 29,469 to 28,530 as compared to 2001 Census, registering a decrease of 3.19%.
The latest census also shows the remarkable literacy rate of 82.4 per cent among the females, as compared to 75.2 per cent in the 2001 census, where as the literacy rate among the males crossed 90 per cent in the current census.
He also informed that the child sex ratio has been improved to 968, where as the adult sex ratio stood at 876 as against 846 in 2001 Census in the islands.
According to Census 2011, the working population of the Islands has been recorded as 1,52,535 workers comprising 1,20,889 males and 31,646 females, marking an increase from 38.26% to 40.08% in a decade. The rest of the population of 2,28,046 persons comprising 81,982 males and 1,46,064 females are non workers.
