Port Blair, March 26: The remote Narcondam Islands of the Andaman and Nicobar Island has been hit by several earthquake-like vibrations since yesterday morning, 25 March 2023, sources said. Narcondam Island, the dormant volcano, is uninhabited except for a few Andaman and Nicobar Police officials, who guard the area. However, online websites showing current earthquake reports show no such data.
As per information yesterday morning, the police team posted in Narcondam Islands felt continuous vibrations at regular intervals. The information was immediately passed on to the Police headquarters and the administration. As a precautionary measure, a Coast Guard Ship was diverted to Narcondam Islands for possible evacuation of police officials in case of any major tremors. However, the situation seems normal till now.
According to sources in North and Middle Andaman, more than 30 vibrations were felt in Narcondam Island yesterday. The police officers, the Disaster Management team, and the ANC officials are currently monitoring the situation closely.
The Andaman Sheekha team tried to contact senior officials of the Police department for a comment on the matter. However, repeated attempts to get an official byte failed. However, from several sources Andaman Sheekha Team could collect this report.
It seems there is some seismic activity under Barren and Narcondam Island. As per reports on Friday night (24 March) a team of senior officers sailed in MV Nalanda to see volcanic eruption of Barren Island. As per unconfirmed reports there were three eruptions every half an hour. Again officials were not available to give any official statement in this regard. It seems seismic activities under Barren and Narcondam are normal as in 2005 after the eruption of Barren Island volcano, the guards of Narcondam were withdrawn for some time.
