Port Blair, Apr 18: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi the state president of BJP A & N State unit today called on the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and highlighted some crucial issues.
Mr. Bairagi expressed gratitude to the Lt. Governor for addressing many issues that were pending for a long time, and for taking steps to advertise thousands of vacant posts and fill them up in a time-bound manner.
During the meeting he handed over a letter to the Lt. Governor, which mentioned the steps taken by the Lt. Governor to solve the long-pending issue of regularization of DRMS of the Port Blair Municipal Council, enhancement of salaries of all part-time workers of the Department of Education, and hike in salary of the Contract lecturers working in different colleges as per UGC guidelines.
In his letter he requested the Lt. Governor to resolve some of the following issues concerning the Islanders. The first issue concerns the exorbitant increase of stamp duty charges and circle rates. Mr. Bairagi requested the Lt. Governor to reduce the stamp duty charges and circle rates, as they have badly affected the local populace of the Islands.
The second issue concerns the irregular power and water supplies. Mr. Bairagi requested the Lt. Governor to take appropriate and permanent steps to resolve these issues by completing the projects already in the pipeline in a time-bound manner.
The third issue concerns allowing the diversion and conversion of land for domestic and commercial purposes. Bairagi requested the Lt. Governor to allow conversion/diversion of land to support the cause of developing these Islands at par with Singapore, as envisioned by the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.
