Port Blair, Aug 13: Kala Kendra- a society under Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration organised ‘Kavyanjali’–a poetic tribute to the Freedom Fighters as part of Independence Day celebrations at National Memorial Cellular Jail yesterday. The air in the National Memorial Cellular Jail reverberated with patriotic fervour as the poets from these Islands presented their self-composed poems on patriotism. The compositions of the poets not only acknowledged the role of Cellular Jail in the freedom struggle history of India’s Independence but also the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for the cause of the motherland. The Director, Art & Culture, Dr. Jatinder Sohal graced the function and presented the mementoes to the poets as a token of appreciation.
The poets who presented poems at Cellular Jail included Ms. Aruna Kumari, Ms Khushi, Ms Sweta Barla, Mr. Ch. Hemant Rao, Ms Mary, Mr. Ayush Dubey, Ms Yashvi, Mr. Sridharan, Mr. Himanshu Basu, Ms D. Adilakshmi, Ms. Deepanjali, Ms. Rajesh Kumari, Ms. Fathima Sura, Ms Jharna Halder, Dr. Neetu Sindhu, Mr. Jagdish Narayan Rai and Dr. Rashida Iqbal. A tourist from Ranchi, Mr. Brijbihar Singh also presented his self composed poem which was appreciated by the gathering. The entire programme was meticulously coordinated by Mr. Abhijitt Agarwal.
