December 26, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, Dec 26: CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee has conducted door-to-door campaign and corner meetings at Haddo Ward No. 1, Buniyadabad and Prem Nagar on 24th, 25th and 26th December, 2023 highlighting various burning issues of the people like (i) frequent power cut, (ii) sky-rocketing price rise (iii) growing unemployment, (iv) corruption, (v) non-availability of stone chips, metals, etc.
Addressing a corner meeting at Buniyadabad, on 25th December, 2023, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee blamed the BJP-led central government for its all-round failure in resolving the burning issues of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He said that prices of essential commodities are increasing unchecked throughout the country and the Modi-government could not fulfill its election promise of reducing the prices within 100 days of coming to power in 2014. He said that when BJP came to power in 2014, the price of Arh Dhal was Rs. 70 per Kg, but the same now costs Rs. 200 per Kg. People belonging to the poorer section are facing hardship due to the price rise.
Addressing the corner meetings, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member of the party said that the BJP government and its Administration failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to a small population of 2 lakhs living in the Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas despite spending hundreds of crores of rupees.
SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member of the Party while addressing the corner meetings at different places briefly explained the failure of the A & N Administration in resolving the pending demands of the working class in the islands. He said that minimum wages are not being revised by the Administration despite agitation by trade unions.
CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee Members NKP Nair and KG Samkutty briefly explained the growing disparity among the poor and rich people due to the corporate-friendly policies of the BJP government at the center.
