Port Blair, June 14: On the basis of field reports from Tehsildar Diglipur and team of revenue officials ,The Deputy Commissioner , North & Middle Andaman has imposed a significant penalty for the illegal extraction and transportation of 1500 CBM of earth from land, situated at Sitanagar village in Diglipur Tehsil. This activity was carried out without the necessary permissions and is a direct violation of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Minor Mineral Rules, 2012.
A detailed report by the Tehsildar, Diglipur, confirmed that the agency illegally extracted 1500 CBM of earth, using the material for construction purposes.
According to Section 201(6) of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Land Revenue and Land Reforms Regulation, 1966, and Rule 34 of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Minor Minerals Rules, 2012, unauthorized extraction and sale of minerals attract severe penalties. The Tehsildar’s assessment confirmed the illegal extraction of 1500 CBM, with a present market value of Rs. 4,50,000/-. Consequently, the penalty assessed at double this value amounts to Rs. 9,00,000/- (Rupees Nine Lakh Only).
In light of these findings, the District Administration has ordered the agency to deposit a penalty of Rs. 9,00,000/- to the Cashier, District O/o NMA.
The respondents have been warned against future violations, and the imposition of this penalty serves as a stern reminder to uphold the law.
