Port Blair, July 10: A significant verdict has been upheld by the Hon’ble High Court, bringing closure to a heinous murder case that shook the community in Billiground. On 06/03/2021, a shocking incident was reported at PS Billiground, where a caller informed the police that Neel Ratan Mridha had brutally attacked his wife with a machete, resulting in her instant death.
The police promptly registered an FIR vide No. 14/21 dated 06/03/2021 U/s 302 IPC and apprehended the accused, Neel Ratan Mridha (34), S/o Shri Niranjan Mridha, R/o Jaipur, Billiground. The case was diligently investigated by Sub-Inspector Madhab Halder, the then SHO of PS Billiground, who worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a strong case.
The trial at the Hon’ble Court of Additional District Session, Mayabunder, resulted in the conviction of the accused, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. The accused appealed against the conviction to the Hon’ble High Court, which has now upheld the lower court’s verdict on 09/07/2024.
