Successful Completion of Coastal Security Exercise “SAGAR KAVACH”

October 27, 2024 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 27: The Andaman & Nicobar Police, enthusiastically took part in the two-day coastal security exercise, “SAGAR KAVACH” conducted by the Andaman & Nicobar Command and Indian Coast Guard, held from 25th to 26th October 2024. The exercise was aimed at enhancing & validating the coastal defense mechanisms across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Various stakeholders of coastal security participated in the biannual exercise designed to simulate real-world security scenarios to test the effectiveness of the Islands security network, preparedness, and inter-agency coordination in safeguarding the coastal territories.

Throughout the exercise, multiple high-intensity simulated threat scenarios were conducted, enabling agencies to assess and improve their responses to seaward threats. Coastal patrols were intensified, with continuous monitoring by assets of the participating agencies which includes vessels & aircrafts. The Police Marine Force had deployed their assets to enhance the surveillance and local police were deployed round the clock throughout the districts. Critical infrastructure across sensitive zones in the Islands witnessed heightened security, and stringent checks were enforced to maintain robust surveillance. The fishing community and local coastal populations were also roped in, serving as vigilant eyes and ears in detecting any unusual activities along the coast.

The exercise provided valuable insights into potential gaps and vulnerabilities in the current coastal defense setup. Key objectives included validating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of all participating agencies, refining crisis management capabilities, enhancing inter-agency communication, and establishing actionable intelligence-sharing protocols.

The exceptional synergy and coordination achieved among the participating agencies during “SAGAR KAVACH 2024″ exercise demonstrated our unwavering commitment to coastal security and our preparedness to face emerging maritime threats. This successful conclusion of the exercise underscores the ongoing commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Police and other allied agencies to the security of the nation’s coastlines and enhancing vigilance in the region.
