Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 3: The Government of India has rolled out the Unified Pensions Scheme (UPS) w.e.f 01.04.2025 for Central Government employees, which also includes employees of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
As per the circular issued by the PFRDA (Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority), New Delhi, the timeline for exercising option is as under;
Existing Employees (Enrolled under NPS before April 1, 2025): Must opt for UPS within three months from April 1, 2025.
New Recruits (Joining on or after April 1, 2025): Must enroll in UPS within 30 days of joining service.
Retired Employees (Retired or voluntarily retired under FR 56(j) on or before March 31, 2025): Must exercise their option within three months from April 1, 2025.
Legally Wedded Spouse of a Deceased Retiree (If the retiree had not exercised the UPS option before passing away): Must exercise their option within three months from April 1, 2025.
All employees of the A&N Administration currently governed under NPS have been informed that they must exercise their option to opt for the Unified Pensions Scheme within three months i.e. by 30.06.2025. If no option is submitted within the stipulated period, the default scheme, i.e. the National Pension System (NPS), shall continue.
Employees wishing to switch over to UPS may submit their option online in the web portal https://npscra.nsdl.co.in/ups.php or by submitting Form A2 to their respective Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO).
Additionally, all individuals joining Government service on or after 01.04.2025 will be required to exercise their option within one month of their joining date.
