Hutbay, Apr. 3: The newly constructed Agri. Sub-Depot at Rabindra Nagar in Little Andaman was inaugurated by Shri ASPS Raviprakash, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Agri), A&N Administration yesterday. The Sub Depot will cater to the needs of more than 300 farmers of the village, enabling access to quality vegetable seeds, organic inputs and also a hub for technical guidance to farmers and dissemination of essential information, advisories and foster community collaboration.
The inaugural function was attended by Shri S Paramanathan, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman, Shri A Raja, Up-Pramukh, Shri Ajay Mondal, Tehsildar, Little Andaman, Shri Parimal Mondal, Pradhan VK Pur, Shri Atul Biswas, Ex-Pradhan, Vivekanadapur and other PRI members.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Agri.) also interacted with the PRIs and farmers who were present at the function. Shri Parimal Mondal, Pradhan, VK Pur, requested for timely supply of Agri inputs, upon which the Asst. Director(Agri.),Little Andaman informed that the procurement of seeds and other inputs are under process at Directorate of Agriculture and it will be supplied by Kharif season. Shri Atul Biswas, Ex-Pradhan Vivekanadapur, requested the Department for procurement of spices at Little Andaman itself rather than transporting it to Departmental Store ‘Vatika’, Sri Vijaya Puram. Upon this, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Agri.) suggested for formation of Farmer Producers Organisation (FPO) which will greatly facilitate the marketing of spices and other farm produces at Little Andaman. The PRI members of Rabindra Nagar also requested for training on application of Drone in Agriculture to the farmers.
