Harinagar, April 15: The Pradhan Gram Panchayat Harinagar, Shri Manojit Halder emphasised the exigency of the construction of a dam in the Korangnallah River at Jaipur village under GP Harinagar.
According to the Pradhan, it has been a long-standing demand of the general public of GP Harinagar that a dam in the Korangnallah River is constructed, and it is imperative that the project is initiated and executed as soon as possible.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Halder said that the construction of the dam is of utmost importance to the people living in the surrounding areas, particularly the villages which have been facing severe shortage of drinking water, especially during the summer season; and the construction of the dam will help redress this issue. In addition to the benefits of providing a steady supply of drinking water to the locals, the dam will also facilitate irrigation and agricultural activities in the region, which will have a positive impact on the local community, the Pradhan added. The APWD reportedly floated a tender for survey of the said dam project and was completed, the Pradhan informed. But, unfortunately, the APWD hasn’t reportedly executed the project yet despite the persistent demands of the people, the GP Pradhan decried. The demand for construction of a dam across Korangnallah was reportedly raised in Gram Sabha meetings multiple times in the past by the Gram Sabha Members, but the project hasn’t seen any advancement even after such a long time the Pradhan rued.
The Pradhan has recently written a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of this UT and urged him to impress upon the concerned Officials for the construction of the dam in the Korangnallah River at Jaipur village GP Haringar, Mr. Halder said. It is essential that this project is given the attention it deserves and is executed without any further delay for the benefit of the people living in the region, the Pradhan further added.
