Sri Vijaya Puram, May 11: India Tourism (Sri Vijayapuram), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, in association with the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO) and Kachrewaale Foundation, conducted a Beach Cleanup Drive at Bharatpur Beach, Shaheed Dweep, promoting the message of sustainability and responsible tourism under the ongoing national cleanliness initiative.
The event saw active participation from tourism stakeholders, PRI members, Makruzz staff, lifeguards, volunteers, and tourists, who all joined hands in restoring the beauty of one of the most visited beaches on the island.
Mr. N. Velmurugan, Assistant Director, India Tourism, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of community-driven cleanliness efforts in maintaining the ecological charm of the Andaman Islands and boosting the tourism experience.
Mr. M. Vinod, President, AATO, extended his thanks to India Tourism, Kachrewaale Foundation, and all contributors for their active involvement. He reiterated AATO’s commitment to working with government bodies and civil society for sustainable tourism development.
Ms. Garima Poonia from Kachrewaale Foundation shared insights on how the organisation processes waste collected during clean-up activities. She explained that all non-recyclable waste is responsibly transported to the mainland for processing, addressing a major gap in waste management infrastructure. She also emphasized Kachrewaale’s commitment to ensuring that no waste is dumped locally, thereby setting an example for eco-conscious tourism practices.
The drive concluded with a strong message of collaboration and environmental responsibility, reinforcing the shared commitment of all partners to protect the natural heritage of the islands.
