Sri Vijaya Puram, May 9:The Directorate of Sports, A&N Administration successfully organized the much-anticipated 5 Km Run and 3 Km Walkathon early this morning, drawing an enthusiastic turnout from citizens across the islands. The event, held under the banner of ‘Fitness-for-All’, aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle and greater community well-being.
The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, as the chief guest flagged off the event and also participated in the 5km Run, adding significance to the spirited event. Senior Officers from A&N Administration also participated in the run. Participants gathered at their respective starting points as early as 5 am, with the 5 Km Run commencing from Chatham Bridge (Saw Mill Gate) and the 3 Km Walkathon for participants above 50 years of age starting from Phoenix Bay Power House Chowk. Both events culminated at the iconic Netaji Stadium.
The route, which passed through scenic and central landmarks including the Sea Shore Road, Megapode Junction, Clock Tower and Gandhi Statue, offered a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.
Hundreds of citizens, including men, women and children from all walks of life, joined the initiative dressed in fitness gear. The Directorate of Sports ensured seamless logistics and safety for participants throughout the event.
The initiative received widespread appreciation for inspiring people to prioritize their physical and mental well-being, thereby reinforcing the Administration’s commitment to fostering a healthier and fitter community.
Later, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, DGP, A&N Islands, Shri Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal and other senior officers of A&N Administration distributed medals to the winners of the 5 km Run and 3 km Walkathon.
