Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13:For the first time in the history of the Onge community, 9 students have successfully cleared the CBSE Class 10 examination, 2025 marking a historic milestone for the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. This remarkable achievement is the outcome of the coordinated efforts of the UT Administration, the Directorate of Tribal Welfare and the Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti.
The UT Administration played a pivotal role by ensuring access to quality education, providing free textbooks, uniforms and supporting inclusive education initiatives.
AAJVS and the Directorate of Education worked closely to address the unique needs of tribal students by facilitating special training programs and remedial classes, ensuring culturally sensitive teaching environments and nutritional support to minimize dropouts.
The UT Administration has extended special support to the PVTG students facing academic or social challenges, ensuring no child was left behind. Regular monitoring and mentoring, along with infrastructural improvements in tribal schools, created a conducive learning environment. This achievement not only highlights the potential of Onge students but also sets a precedent for other tribal communities of these islands.
The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration has lauded the efforts of the students, their families, teachers and field functionaries of Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti who have worked tirelessly to overcome socio-economic and linguistic barriers. With continued support, this success is expected to inspire more students from the PVTG community to pursue formal education.
The UT Administration is fully committed to continue supporting tribal education, aiming for even higher enrollment and success rates in the coming years.
