Sri Vijaya Puram, May 16: The 16th KIIT International Chess Festival concluded today at Viswanathan Anand Hall, KIIT Campus, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The grand event saw the participation of around 1,000 players from nearly 40 countries, competing enthusiastically across three different rating categories.
J S Virat, a rising young chess talent from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands participated in the event and made a strong impression in Category C (Below 1700 rating). Competing in Category C (Below 1700 rating), which featured around 500 players, Virat delivered an impressive performance by scoring 5.5 points out of nine rounds. He secured 10th position in the 1600 rating sub-category and was awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of ₹5,500
Virat’s success highlights the growing potential of chess in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and serves as an inspiration for young players from remote islands aspiring to make their mark in the world of chess.
