Sri Vijaya Puram, May 16: In the morning hours of 16th May, 2025, the Forest Officials of the Mobile Squad Range conducted a successful routine patrolling operation in coordination with Garacharma Range. The operation resulted in the detection and seizure of illegally possessed hand sawn timber of Padauk wood, category I(A) from M/s Raju Furniture Mart, Dollygunj.
The operation was led by Smti Abida Bibi, Forest Guard, Mobile Squad Range in active coordination with team members Shri John Chrisostom, Forest Guard, Mobile Squad Range, Shri Jagdeep Lall, Forest Guard, Garacharma Range, Shri Ganesh Sahu, Mazdoor, Shri Paul Mark, Mazdoor, Shri Vishal Minj, Mazdoor & other Mazdoors of Garacharma Range under South Andaman Forest Division. The team detected the illegally possessed hand sawn timber in the furniture unit during their working and enquired about the relevant documents of the hand sawn timber which the Furniture unit staffs could not furnish. The team carried out an intensive search of the unit and recovered all the illegally possessed hand sawn timber from the unit.
The operation resulted in the seizure of illegally possessed 44 pieces/ 0.506 cbm of hand sawn Padauk timber involved in the illegal activity. The accused involved in the operation was arrested on the spot under relevant sections for violation of ANI Forest Produce Transit Rule 1966 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 and was subsequently released on bail bond from the Range Officer, Garacharma Range.
Further investigations are going on to ascertain the origin of the illegally possessed hand sawn timber. General public have been requested to pass on any credible information of illegal activities related to Forest and Wildlife offense via Helpline Number 03192-255228. Identity of the informers will be kept confidential.
