Nancowry, May 19:With the aim to uplift the tribal communities of the Nancowrie Zone, the Department of Agriculture, A&N Administration distributed free Vegetable Seed Mini Kits and Fork Shovels to the farmers of Kamorta, Katchal, Teresa, and Chowra. This initiative was carried out under the guidance of Smt. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Agriculture), A&N Administration, to encourage local farmers to adopt vegetable cultivation for both self-consumption and commercial purposes.
In a function organized by the Department, the Assistant Commissioner of Nancowrie distributed the vegetable seed mini kits to the farmers. A total of 200 vegetable seed mini kits each kit containing of seeds of Bhindi, Brinjal, Coriander, Chilli, Tomato, Yard Long Bean and 200 Fork Shovels were distributed to farmers in the Nancowrie Zone with the objective of enhancing the vegetable production in the region.
Apart from this, a series of farmer-oriented activities and demonstrations were organized through the Agricultural Technology Management Agency, to promote kitchen gardening and profitable vegetable cultivation. A notable demonstration on kitchen gardening and vegetable cultivation was held at the farm of Shri Aslam Majid, Captain, Kamorta, in coordination with the CTC, Nancowrie. During the demonstration, farmers were educated about the complete Package of Practices (PoP) related to vegetable cultivation. The demonstration was conducted and explained by Shri M. K. Arshad, Agriculture Assistant.
A similar awareness session was held at Katchal on profitable vegetable cultivation/ kitchen gardening, in which, 30 farmers attended the programme. The awareness session was imparted by Shri Ujval Lall, Agriculture Assistant.
