Sri Vijaya Puram, May 22: During routine beat patrolling on21st May, 2025 in Bimblitan Reserved Forest Area under South Andaman Forest Division, forest team members comprising Beat Officer Shri. Shyam Sunder Rao (Forester), departmental mazdoors Shri. P Papa Rao, Shri. Randhir Soreng & others detected an illicit country liquor preparation site inside the dense forest area.
On further investigation, the team found 350 liters of Lahan (Fermented base for making country liquor) along with used utensils i.e. 02 nos. Plastic Jerrican (20 Liters), 02 nos. Iron cask (200 L capacity), 02 nos. Empty Tin containers (15 L capacity) and 01 no. illicit liquor iron spoon attached with hole in bamboo in a small, cleared patch inside the forest area. The team tried to search for the offenders in the forest area but nobody was found. Following the seizure by the Beat Officer, Bimblitan, all confiscated 350 liters of Lahan was destroyed on the spot and the remaining items were seized U/s Sec. 52 (1) of Indian Forest Act, 1927 and handed over the same to Camp Officer, Head Quarter, Garacharma Range under South Andaman Forest Division for safe custody.
The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Forest Range Officer, Garacharma Range with active guidance by the Assistant Conservator of Forests (South Andaman Forest Division). General Public are requested to play an active role in combating the illegal offences inside Reserved Forest areas/Protected areas and reporting any instances of Forest or Wildlife related crimes to the South Andaman Forest Division at helpline number 03192-255228. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential in all manners.
