Sri Vijaya Puram, May 23: The Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, celebrated International Day for Biodiversity on 22nd May, 2025 at Dhanikhari Experimental Garden-Cum-Arboretum in the association with Zoological Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre. Programme was initiated with welcome address delivered by Additional Director & Regional Head Dr. Lal Singh and he emphasized upon significance and role of biodiversity on Earth.
During the celebration, Padmashree awardee Mr. Naresh Chander Lal, Ambassador, Swachh Bharat Mission, Andaman & Nicobar Islands was the Chief Guest. He appreciated both the organization for conducting such kind of event and urged the local people to make the harmony with the environment towards the sustainable development. The Special Guest, Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Additional Director & Officer In-charge, ZSI, briefed about the importance of Biodiversity and greeted the students for their active participation.
On this occasion, a drawing competition for school students was organized. Students from over 10 schools participated in the competition. All scientist and staffs members of the centre, local people also participated and showed keen interest for conservation of Biodiversity.
The programme was moderated by Dr. Anil Kumar Midigesi, Botanist and Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Pankaj Arvind Dhole, Botanist.
