Port Blair, June 09: The Directorate of Disaster Management along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team conducted awareness cum demonstration session at the Marine Dockyard for all the employees of the DSS today. Mr. Mahinder Singh, Assistant Marine Engineer welcomed one and all for the training programme and stressed the participants to focus on the life saving skills which will come handy especially who deal passengers on board. Mr. Veeraiah Deputy Director, Mr. Ajayan AD (Ops), Mr. Deen Mohammed, Information Officer and Mr. Janik Ram, Liaison Officer present on the occasion to oversee the training programme.
Mr. Gyan Singh, Asst. Director (Log.), highlighted the vulnerability of the Islands and its importance of awareness programmes and the role of NDRF in Disaster Management. Mr. S K Singh, Inspector, NDRF, said 22 states of our country including Andaman & Nicobar Islands are highly susceptible to disasters of varied intensities, though we cannot prevent these natural phenomenon (disasters) to happen but definitely with a holistic and a meticulous approach & plan we could greatly reduce the impact, before handing over the responsibility of training to his team.
The NDRF Team who is a specialized force to respond all kinds of disasters in India exhibited their skills with great alacrity beginning from MFR, First Aid, CPR, CSSR and SAR. Apart from these they highlighted how to wear a life jacket and use of rafts and showed the technical know- hows of all the state of the art equipments armed by NDRF.
All the participants’ present evinced keen interest on life saving skills imparted by NDRF, most of them volunteer themselves to involve and learn the techniques exhibited which will prove handy at times of distress.
