Port Blair, Apr 10: Death of a 12 year old boy at the swimming pool of Department of Sports triggered a major unrest this evening.
According to details available here the boy Sumit Kumar Gupta, a student of class VII in Vivekananada Kendra Vidyalaya, was found drowned in the pool at around 6.00 pm this evening.
As per details, Specialist of G B Pant hospital Dr. Shiv Shankar Singh was at Swimming pool at that point of time, who reportedly gave CPR to the boy but boy did not respond.
Immediately the boy was rushed to the G B Pant Hospital where he was declared dead.
The swimming pool reportedly has life guards, coach and assistant coaches but at the time of accident there were reportedly no one in the pool and this negligence, as per the parents, resulted in this major disaster.
The parents of the child demanded stringent action against those who are responsible for this criminal negligence and also demanded a thorough inquiry in this entire issue.
There was unrest at G B Pant Hospital till last report poured in and senior officers like DGP, DC and Secretary Sports as well as Education visited the hospital and spoke to the parents.
The Secretary of Education reportedly assured the parents that suspension orders will be served to all the responsible officers by tonight.
According to report the coach of the swimming pool has been picked up by the police team this evening for inquiry however it is not yet confirmed whether he was arrested.
However, the matter appears to be more serious than it looks Andaman Sheekha investigation found that as per norms for any coaching there should not be more than 30 children in a batch of swimming but in the batch of 5pm to 6pm in which Sumit Kumar Gupta, used to come, there were more than 60 children, which makes impossible for any number of life guards to keep an eye on all the children all the time.
Moreover the swimming pool is said to be dangerous for children as it has too much depth at one corner. Moreover recently a non technical person has been made incharge of swimming pool, which is one of the main reasons of present mismanagement, many believe.
