NSRY conducts beach cleaning drive at Bada Balu

November 19, 2015 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, Nov 18: As a curtain raiser event of its 42nd Anniversary, the Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY) here conducted an environmental interface programme at ‘Bada Balu’ beach on Nov 14 during which a beach cleaning drive was undertaken. Addressing Yard personnel and family members, Commodore Girideep Singh, Commodore Superintendent of the Yard brought out that environmental interface programme was chosen to reiterate the Yard’s commitments to the environment of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Commodore impressed upon his team that NSRY should leave positive green footprints in the pristine surroundings of the Islands.
Commitment of employees of the Yard and their families, including small children to mother nature was on display as they trekked to ‘BadaBalu’ beach. Formed into small teams, they spread over the entire beach area of about one km cleaning it off plastic waste. An attempt was made to spread the message to all to abstain from littering the beach with plastic waste and garbage, which causes damage to the sensitive ecology of the islands. The waste collected from the beach was transported back to the Naval Ship Repair Yard for further disposal.
