Port Blair, Dec 30: Out Reach Centre of CIARI, supported by NABARD has conducted two days training on Pulse Cultivation with Good Agricultural Practices at R.K. Gram village of Diglipur, North Andaman on 24th and 25th December, 2015. Around twenty seven Farmers representing from different Farmer’s Club promoted by ORC attended the programme.
Dr. S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Pr. Scientist, Dr. V. Damodaran, ACTO, Mr. Siba Mahato, SRF and Mr. Dibendu Gain , FA of the Institute acted as a resource personnel during the programme. The participants were sensitized on land preparation, proper sowing, drainage making, application of FYM/compost and good agricultural practices with proper utilization of truthfully labelled seed material of High Yielding Varieties (HYV) of both urad and mung which were made available from the host Institute. The successful growers of the pulse crop also shared their experience of growing with preference on both Jath kalai and Tel Kalai in their field.
A total of twenty six Front Line Demonstrations was conducted comprising 11 with mung and urad 15 in six cluster of villages viz., R.K. Gram, Ram Nagar, Keralapuram, RabindraPally, Madhupur and Kalipur with an objective to showcase the performance of the varieties to the larger group of farmers. The pulse cultivation and demonstration programme has been planned under the scientific guidance of Dr. A.K. Singh, Senior Scientist of the Institute.
The highlight of the pulse cultivation programme is the commitment of the farmers to grow the crops as per the recommendation and return back the quantity of seeds received for demonstration to the Institute after the harvest of the crop.
