Diglipur, Aug 18: The residents of Shyamnagar village under Diglipur Tehsil have decried failure of authorities to undertake repairs of dilapidated road in the locality.
According to information, the connecting road from Main road to Tete house at Shyamnagar, Ward No. 01 spanning over 750 metres under Zilla Parishad, has deteriorated significantly, causing immense hardship for residents and vehicle owners alike.
The road’s deplorable condition has sparked widespread outrage among the residents, who claim that the RD department’s failure to repair the stretch of road i.e. from Main road to Tete house has exacerbated the issue.
A group of locals in the area said the road from Main road to Tete house is dotted with potholes. “Due to dilapidated roads, we face problems walking or driving vehicles”, they rued. Another group of residents said that the road from Main road to Tete house is not dotted with mere potholes; there are big craters or one may say the road has now turned to floodplains, they decried. Accusing the concerned agency responsible for the work, veterans of the village and adjoining areas said that the stretch of road in question has become a source of inconveniences for pregnant women, children, students and elderly, many residents received injuries after slipping on uneven road surface, and it is in dilapidated condition for more than a decade. “We make a fervent appeal to the concerned authority to ensure immediate repairs of the dilapidated road in our locality,” they said.
Amid this, talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Smti. NilimaSamadder, Pradham GP, Radhanagar said that she wrote a letter to the Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad Bhavan, N & M Andaman, Mayabunder a couple of weeks ago and informed her that till date three Adhyakshs have been appointed, but the road is still reportedly in the same dilapidated condition. This is the 750m road of Zillaparishad “Main road to Tete house” at Shyamnagar which was built in 2009-2010, its repair work has not been done yet, she said in her letter. At present the road exists in name sake only, the road has turned to big craters filled with rain waters; while the culverts have broken down, she further wrote in the letter. The next 1.5 km road belongs to APWD. No vehicle can go inside; there is no way for school students, pregnant ladies, and old sick people to move, she said. At the end, the Pradhan requested Adhyaksha to either hand over this 750m road to APWD or give funds to Zillaparishad so that it can repair the road; as she cannot listen to the abuses of the public any longer, she said.
