December 29, 2024 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Car Nicobar, Dec 29: In a moving tribute to the victims and survivors of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the Air Force Station Car Nicobar, under the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), organized a historic 65-kilometer open-water swim around Car Nicobar Island. The event, conducted on 26 and 27 December 2024, was flagged off by Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, Commander in Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN).
The 65-kilometer swim witnessed participation from officers and personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Coast Guard. The team was led by Rear Admiral Biplab Hota, VSM, Chief of Staff, ANC, and also included Ms. Meghana Rajshekhar, a tsunami survivor.
The initiative highlights the resilience of the people of Car Nicobar, the island most severely affected by the disaster, which displaced thousands and left an indelible mark on the region.
“This swim is a tribute to the strength of our people and the indomitable spirit of the survivors,” said Group Captain Rosha, VM, Station Commander, Air Force Station Car Nicobar. By uniting personnel from across the armed forces, the event highlights the spirit of unity and determination that defines the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The commemorative swim serves not only as a poignant reminder of the lives lost but also as a celebration of the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity, ensuring the legacy of resilience and solidarity endures.
