Sri Vijaya Puram, May 16: An male body was found today near the old BSNL Telecom office, adjacent to the General Post Office in Sri Vijaya Puram. The body, discovered in a decomposed state, was lying in a neglected corner of the compound—an area that had long been used by the man as a makeshift shelter.
The location, once a hub for the Ministry of Communication and IT and BSNL operations, now lies largely unused.
Upon reaching the spot, the police and forensic teams immediately began their inquiry. The area showed signs that the man had been living there for several months. Old clothes, cardboard pieces, and plastic sheets used as bedding were found near the body. Local residents stated that the man was often seen sitting or sleeping in the vicinity and reportedly had an untreated leg injury.
According to eyewitnesses, the homeless man had previously received some basic medical care, but his condition remained critical. No one in the area knew his name or origins, though many had seen him roaming around the nearby bus stand and returning to sleep in the same spot at night.
Initial observations suggest that the body may be several days old, with visible signs of infection and advanced decay, particularly around the leg. Vomit was also found near the body. Officials are awaiting a post-mortem and forensic report to determine the exact cause of death.
The body has been transported to GB Pant Hospital for further examination. Efforts are being made to identify the deceased and locate any family members.
