Tourism Department Hosts Workshop on ‘Curating City Experience’ to Promote Urban Tourism

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 16: A workshop on the theme ‘Curating City Experience’ was held in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Disaster Management here today. Organised by the Tourism Department, the workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary, Tourism, Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, as the chief guest. In her address, the Secretary, Tourism said that the workshop is the outcome of the two- days UT Level Conference held last month. The Secretary further stated that there are players in the Tourism Industry who are already doing it and creating these experiences. Further, through this workshop, the Department wishes to inform young entrepreneurs that ‘Curating City Experience’ is also a segment of Tourism industry, which can be explored and can be taken up by small entrepreneurs. It doesn’t require a lot of infrastructure, but it needs a lot of understanding and tie-ups with many local points.

In his address, the Director, Tourism, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, informed that as part of the discussion on Tourism sector held in ‘SANGITI’ Conference, last month, a need was felt to conduct a workshop to bring forth the unique experiences and vibrance of Sri Vijaya Puram, about its people, culture, heritage, lifestyles, cuisine etc. In order to increase the period of stay of tourists in Sri Vijaya Puram, the Department has put in its best efforts to retain the tourists in Sri Vijaya Puram too, so that they are able to experience the rich history, culture, lifestyle, people, cuisine etc.

Jadwet, Chairman of the IATO, Andaman Chapter, Chairman of Andaman Ship Owners Association, MD MAK Logistics, Dr. Rashida Iqbal, Historian, Dr. Pronob Kumar Sircar, Ethnohistorian, Anthropologist and Writer, Shri Mukeshwar Lall, an eminent citizen and a renowned historian of A&N Islands, Dr. Jijith Rekh, Owner of Junglee Mirchi Resort & Restaurant, Dr. R.V.R. Murthy, Associate Professor & HoD, History, JNRM, Shri Vivek Lall, Founder TATT Water Adventure Pvt. Ltd. & General Secretary, YCCI also addressed the gathering.
