Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant Recruitment: unemployed youths smell rat

Port Blair, Sept 27: The postal department is conducting massive recruitment drive for the benefit of unemployed youth of rural areas in particular and others in general for more than 5,000 posts of Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant across the country. The total number of vacancies is 5405.

According to the Postal Department the application forms are available at selected Head Post Offices all over the country. The application form is also available on India Post website www.indiapost.gov.in for facilitating the candidates for downloading the online applications. The last date of receipt of application is 1st October, 2012 and the eligibility criteria for the post is 10+2 or intermediate.

But to the dismay of Island unemployed youths none of the Post Office of A & N Islands, including the Head Post Office has the application forms for the post of Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant. Even since August first week candidates were told that the forms are unavailable in Andaman. The employees of Postal Department usually advise Island candidates to apply online but to the utter shock the website of India Post, www.indiapost.gov.in neither has any information about the recruitment drive nor does the website have any kind of application form.

Island unemployed youths allege that this has been done under a well plan strategy to stop island candidates from appearing in this examination. However, many insiders have easily got the forms in Andaman because of their contacts in the Postal Department but for others the forms have simply vanished in thin air.

“The Lt. Governor must order an inquiry in this regard because this time thousands of local youths won’t be able to even fill the form of these posts. This is cheating with Islanders. The Lt. Governor should also take up this matter with the Ministry and extend dates for Andaman Candidates and urge the ministry to provide more application forms for Island youths,” said an angry candidate.
