Depression patient, who was about to commit suicide, saved by PS Chatham team

Port Blair, Oct 14: A depression patient, who came to Port Blair from Telangana, without informing his family members, was about to commit suicide on Saturday night from Chatham Jetty.
According to reports a person who was fishing very close to the Jetty, saw this man and immediately informed that matter to PS Chatham. After which the team of PS Chatham reached the spot and prevented the man, Mr. S V Reddy, from Jumping into the sea.

After he was brought to PS Chatham he was not willing to share his address and personal information but later he provided some details from which the SHO and his team of PS Chatham brought out all details and the matter was soon informed to the family members of Mr. Reddy.
The family members who have already reached Port Blair now reportedly accepted that Mr. Reddy has a habit of going far away from home, without telling anyone, since he got into depression.
With sincere efforts of Andaman and Nicobar Police Mr. Reddy is now united with his family and soon Mr. Reddy will be taken to mainland India.

Auto gutted at night; PS Chatham smells rat, arrests accused within a day

Port Blair, Oct 14: On Sunday wee hours at around 02.20 AM a fire was reported from an auto at foreshore road area Haddo. The Fire reportedly gutted the auto completely. Smelling rat in this incident the PS Chatham SHO and his team conducted a thorough inquiry in this regard and during investigation it is found that the brother-in-law of the victim, Swapan Madhu ,actually set the auto in fire, following some personal differences. Later a case was registered against the accused and he was arrested.

South Andaman Police Arrests Drug Peddling Kingpins and Recovers 4 Kg Of Ganja

Port Blair Oct 14: To curb down the menace of drugs from these Islands, the team of South Andaman Police has once again proved their efficiency to bust down the kingpin and booked two accused persons under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 with a recovery of 4 Kg Ganja.On 13.10.2019, on receipt of credible information, a raiding team led by Insp. Sanjay Kumar, SHO PS Aberdeen comprising SI Surjit Bhattacharjee, ASI Sanjay Yadav, HCs A. Raja, Muthu Kumar, PCs Zulfikar Ahmed, Ashish Mallick, S. Nanak Singh, M. Raja Rao, Nandita Mistry, Minni Tigga, Kajali Mondal & HG(D) Shaukat Ali conducted raid and recovered a total of 04 Kg Ganja from the possession of persons namely Sekh Mehboob Ali S/o Mr. Sekh Safiul, 20 yrs R/o Chandni Chowk, South Point & Sekh Murtaza S/o Mr. Sekh Shafiul, 30 yrs R/o South Point near Masjid, Port Blair. Later on, both the accused persons were arrested and produced before the Hon’ble Court from where they were sent to Judicial Custody Remand. The entire operation took place under SDPO South Andaman and under the overall direction and supervision of Mr. Manoj C., IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District. The general public is requested to share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 112, 03192-232100 & 03192-233077. The identity of the informant will be kept secret.

DySP Ajay Rai inaugurates MRV CCTV cameras fixed at Old Pahargaon Chowk by ‘Old Pahargaon S Active Club’

Port Blair, Oct 14: in a laudable initiative by the ‘Old Pahargaon S Active Club’ to help Andaman Nicobar Police in monitoring any untoward incident in their area, MRV cameras of latest technology have been installed in a pole just opposite to Unique Bar, Old Pahargaon.
‘Old Pahargaon S Active Club’, who are actually the shop owners of the area collected the money and fixed 04 MRV Camera worth Rs 70,000.
“There are several Bars here and the place is now having a lot of population, so to prepare ourselves from any untoward incident, precaution is very necessary, thus these CCTV cameras will help police to keep a check and at the times of any mishaps this CCTV cameras will help police,” said Mr Aakash, Secretary, ‘Old Pahargaon S Active Club’.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Mr Ajay Kumar Rai inaugurated the MRV CCTV camera today at 08:00pm.

IGNOU: Last date of assignment submission extended

Port Blair, Oct 14: The last date of submission of assignments (Tutor Marked Assignments), by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), at Study Centre has now been extended upto 31st October, 2019. Students have been advised to strictly follow the guidelines to prepare assignments available at
Study Centre and Regional Centre. Readymade assignments answers downloaded from websites will not be accepted. Computer software will be used to screen the assignment answers. Students must collect the
evaluated assignments (with marks and tutor comments) within 2-3 months from the date of submission. A communication from Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Port Blair said.

Application invited for allotment of sea sand

Port Blair Oct 14: The PCCF (CRZ & FC) vide letter No. APCCF/SAND/3-1/Vol-XIII/640 dated 29.03.2019 has communicated allotment of sea sand from identified sand accreting sites in non-eco sensitive zones of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Application is therefore, invited from private individual/ private institutions (School, Church, Mosque, Temple) alongwith attested copies of land record entry, revenue sketch map issued by the competent authority and Islander card for allotment of sea sand. The individual/ institution shall apply to the Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman Division, Wimberlygunj from 15.10.2019 to 15.11.2019.
Considering limited availability of sea sand in South Andaman District, the applicants of these Divisions may be allotted sea sand from other divisions as per the PCCF’s allotment order.Only, the fresh application will be considered for allotment of sea sand. The applications received by this office earlier will be treated cancelled.

Department of Disaster Management conducts workshop on Disaster Response Mechanism

Port Blair, Oct.14: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration, Port Blair, in collaboration with the Directorate of Education conducted a Workshop/Training Programme for the Officers / Staff of Education Department, Principals of Govt. Schools of Port Blair Municipal area on Oct.14, 2019 in the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Disaster Management. The Director of Education, Shri Kamlesh Kumar, Sr. Officers of Directorate of Education, Principals of Govt. Schools of Port Blair Municipal area, Officers / Section In-Charges of the Directorate of Education participated in the training programme. Shri Ajayan, Asst. Director, Disaster Management (DM) apprised the participants about the Disasters Response Mechanism and Preparedness strategies. The equipments of the State Control Room and the Controlling Mechanism was displayed for the participants. Shri. Gyan Singh, Asst. Director (DM) and Shri Deen Mohammed, Protocal Officer, Directorate of Disaster Management were also present.

AGM of Andaman Nicobar Kayaking & Canoeing Association Held

Port Blair, Oct 14: An AGM of Andaman Nicobar Kayaking & Canoeing Association was held on 12th October 2019 at Hotel Palika Palace Port Blair.

Various issues regarding the development and the hurdles being faced in the Sports were discussed. Medal winning sportspersons of the islands in these sports also presented their views and suggestions.

It was decided that in a Ceremony to be held on 17th October at TSG Emerald View Phoenix Bay Port Blair, the Certificates for National Championships 2018 would be handed over to the respective Sportspersons.

It was also decided as per directives of the National Federation that elections to the executive committee of the Association would be held in February 2020 as per norms laid down by the Federation.

Construction of road using shredded plastic at Car Nicobar by APWD begins

Car Nicobar, Oct 14: For the first time in Car Nicobar, shredded plastic has been used for the construction of road work. Administration has been insisting on using 8-10% shredded plastic in bituminous road work as recommended by CRRI. APWD, Construction Division, Car Nicobar on Oct 12, 2019 in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District, Dr. Monica Priyadarshini had started using shredded plastic 8-10% in the ongoing road work ‘Improvement of internal road from Kinyuka School to Nicobari Round Hut at Chukchucha for a length of 2.3 kms. This has been an initiative taken by APWD, Car Nicobar for the judicious use of existing plastic waste in public welfare, which in turn minimize the burden of plastic waste from the environment of this territory.
