Diglipur, April 12: A mammoth gathering of over 1500 devotees celebrated Baba Taarakeshwar puja at Diglipur on the 9th of this month. The puja is performed every year to invoke the blessing of Lord Shiva during the month of Chaitra and devotees begin fast and perform other rituals a week in advance. Adequate police bandabast was put in place for the celebrations to prevent any untoward incident. Two Ambulances, Police personnel and Home Guards were deployed round the clock for the smooth conduct of the event.
According to reports, devotees including women and children fetched the holy water from remote areas like Lamiya Bay Waterfalls, Ramnagar and Radhanagar to pour it on the holy Shivling A day before devotees perform puja rituals at the river sangam and sea and later proceed to Ravindra Pally, Diglipur with four Kalash containing Bhang decorated with fruits and flowers. The 24 km long journey is performed barefoot by all devotees including women and children.
In the midnight, devotes begin their journey to Ravindra Pally and performed pujas at Kalipur, Durgapur, Aerial Bay, VS Pally, Dakshineshwar Temple, Crematorium, Shiv Mandir, Subhash Gram on the way. Early morning at about 5 am, devotees reach Ravindra Pally chanting the mantra Lord Shiva. Cooked Prasad was served to the devotees and general public at the culmination of all puja rituals.
Congress leaders congratulate Mr. Naresh Chandra Lall

Class XII, Diglipur girl Commits Suicide

Diglipur, 5 Feb: A class XII student of Model School Diglipur committed suicide today evening by hanging at her residence at Subhashgram village of Diglipur. Her father Tapan Mondal a private labourer and mother a Dwakra group member was not at home when this incident happened.
According to report the victim was studying in class XII in science medium. Her body was kept at CHC Diglpur Mortuary. Post Mortem will be done tomorrow. Reason for the suicide is still not known.
GSAT to beam Ray of Hope for Andaman :BSNL to get 300 mbps bandwidth by February 2015: CGM

Port Blair, Dec 17: Poor telecom facilities is perhaps the biggest hurdle for the development of Andaman and Nicobar Islands but it seems that at least BSNL is hopeful that soon the telecom service in these Islands will improve at par with Mainland India.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the Chief General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Mr R. N. Jha, ITS recently said that very soon the telecom facilities of Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be made at par with Mainland.
Mr. Jha said that due to limited bandwidth available, BSNL is unable to give new Broadband connections to customers immediately. “Very soon we will be increasing the capacity and we are going ahead in right direction,” he added.
Giving more details, the CGM said that by January 2015, the speed of internet will be increased to 50 mbps while by February the speed will be increased to 300 mbps. “This will be possible as we have got nearly four transponders on rent from Thaicom 7 Satellite and talks are on for four more transponders,” he said.
Further the CGM added that from GSAT 16, which was launched recently, BSNL, A & N Circle will be initially getting nearly 40- 45 mbps bandwidth while by June-July 2015 these Islands will be getting more 300 mbps of bandwidth.
Islanders have heard dozens and dozens of such promises in past but have kept all hopes alive. Hope in 2015 islanders will witness miracle in Telecom sector of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Naresh Chander Lal’s movie on ‘Nancowry’ Queen to be released in January

Port Blair, Nov 21: Noted filmmaker of these islands, Naresh Chander Lal, is all set to release his next movie, The Queen of Indigenous Island, in the month of January 2015.
The 80-minute movie, subtitled in English, is based on the life of Rani Laxmi of Nancowry group of Islands. Ajay Saini, a Social Scientist from Mumbai, Raseed Yousuf, Prince of Nancowry, family members of Rani Laxmi are among the lead cast, while folk singers and dancers from Nancowrie group of Islands will also appear in the movie.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr Lal said that the film is completed and the promos has been submitted to Secretary (Tribal Welfare), Andaman & Nicobar administration for final approval and censorship. The film has been sponsored by Tribal Council of Nancowry Group of Islands on the basis of which crew members were issued tribal passes for shooting in the Nancowrie group of islands, he added.
The movie has been written, produced and directed by Mr Naresh Chander Lal under the banner of Island films. Timmanna Hegde is the Cameraman of the film, while M Shalim Tafooque is the Editor. M Shalim Tafooque also edited sounds. Avinash has composed the background music for the movie.
Andaman’s Movie: What happens 6 to 6′ by month end

Port Blair, Nov 09: What happens 6 to 6, a movie shot in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is all set to release by the end of November. Venky and Lakshmi, a talented actress from Andaman, acted as the lead pair in a romantic thriller titled, “What happens 6 to 6”. Janardhana Rao is the director of this film.
The film has completed all the formalities and is releasing at the end of this month. Producer Lakshmi said, “I acted as the heroine in this film. This is a very different film and we have shot the film in Andaman. Our director has made the film very lavishly. Elendar gave superb tunes. We will release the movie at the end of this month”. Krishna Tej, ChittiBabu, Avinash etc acted in this film.
Naresh Chander Lal to attend short film festival at Rishikesh

Port Blair, Apr 11: Islands’ own renowned film director, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal is proceeding to New Delhi tomorrow to attend short film festival on culture 2014 at Rishikesh. In this festival Lal’s feature film Gandhi the Mahatma and Amrit Jal will be screened as well as the documentary film Runway on the Sea made by Lal, has been included as a special attraction in the adventure film category.
Naresh Chander Lal plans Short Film on ‘Manu da’
Port Blair, Mar 03: Renowned Film and theater Director of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal is all set to shot a short film on ‘Manu da’, a retired GDS Staff of Postal Department and a very well known as well as loveable person of Port Blair city.
This will be Naresh Chander Lal’s 2014’s Short Film, which will be shot along with his upcoming feature film ‘Ek Mausam Chota Sa’.
