Rangat, June 24: The Indian Red Cross society distributed Red-Cross printed Face Masks, Soaps and Homoeo Immunity Booster Medicines and conducted COVID-19 appropriate behaviour awareness program to benefit the Safaikarmacharis and mazdoors of Rangat Panchayat.
Dr. B.Bindu Kumar, Secretary Incharge of Red-Cross, N&M Andaman and Mr. P.Prakash, Red-Cross life member and Mrs. Poonam Rai, Panchayat Secretary were present.
The Red cross Secretary I/c also demonstrated how to properly wear face Mask covering nose and mouth effectively and also demonstrated handwashing technique using soap and water and to follow physical distancing to effectively prevent the chain of transmission of viral infections.
While distributing the Medicine, the doctor advised to take 4 globules of Arsenic alb 30 for adult and 2 for children below 10 years, in empty stomach for three consecutive days in the morning and each time after taking the medicine, there should be no intake of food or liquid for at least 30 minutes. After taking the medicine for three days, the dose could be repeated after a gap of 3 to 4 weeks.
Earlier Mrs. Poonam Rai, Panchayat Secretary, welcomed and Mr. P.Prakash thanked the Panchayat Secretary for the arrangements.
Crocodile Attacks resident of Shaktighar, Rangat; Victim Missing

Rangat, June 23: A 72 years old woman namely Mrs. Elean Barla has been reportedly attacked by a crocodile yesterday evening at around 05:00 PM at Shaktighar area of Rangat.
As per reports, the 72 year old woman with her daughter, had gone for fishing at Shaktighar Baludera Nallah, where while fishing a crocodile attacked her and took her inside water because of which her daughter and also nearby people couldn’t help her.
The lady is still missing and a search operation has been launched in this regard.
Mr. Satya Prakash, IFS, DFO, Rangat told Andaman Sheekha that still search operation is going on. Joint team of forest and police is searching the body using four dinghies.
One cage has also been placed in the Nallah and tomorrow another cage will be placed. As per sources heavy rain is making search operation very difficult.
“Today I went to the spot and met with family members of old woman and I gave assurance that the department will do best to help the family,” Mr. Satya Prakash added.
Islanders must follow COVID Appropriate Behavior: DC, NMA

Port Blair, Jun 22: Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman said that issuing recent lockdown orders and restricting unnecessary movement of people in North and Middle Andaman was necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19 in NMA District.
In a telephonic conversation with media the DC said that since lockdown has started in the North and Middle Andaman District, people of the District were facing a lot of difficulties. Preventing Islanders and the District from transmission of Coronavirus was important. So far, situation is under control and thus some relaxation has been given to islanders, she added.
“Also I would request that though some relaxations have been provided by Administration, that doesn’t mean that one should violate the rules, people should come out of their house only if it is necessary, they should maintain social distancing at public places and should follow Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) and always put their mask on”, the DC added.
The DC further pointed out that the efforts which have been made by Administration till now to contain the spread of COVID-19, that should not be wasted. Whatever relaxations have been provided by Administration, should not be misused.
One Arrested from Kadamtala for impregnating Minor Girl

Port Blair, June 22: Yesterday a minor girl aged 17 years, went to a PHC in Middle Andaman recently for medical treatment on feeling unwell. During the Heath checkup the doctor found the girl pregnant by two and a half month.
Consequently the matter was reported to the PS Kadamtala and a Lady Sub Inspector was deputed from PS Rangat to investigate the matter and to do the needful in this regard immediately.
The Lady Inspector investigated the matter and arrested the accused a resident of Kadamtala, aged 25 years. The accused was produced before the Honb’le CJM Court at Mayabunder and from there the accused has sent for 14 days Judicial Custody.
It is learnt from sources that two years back the same girl was pregnant and same accused was arrested by PS Aberdeen. The POCSO case of two years back is still pending, it is learnt.
Large Scale Raids Continues in North and Middle Andaman region against bootlegging

Port Blair, June 21: Bars and wine shops have been closed for some time and this is the time when bootleggers and Rice Beer makers are trying to take advantage.
Keeping this in mind, the district police of North and Middle Andaman has increased the vigil over habitual bootleggers and is continuously conducting raids and jungle searches.
Although the police stations are already stretched for resources because of the enforcement of ongoing COVID restrictions and deployment of additional staff for patrolling in Jarawa Reserve areas, it has not deterred them for this important aspect, as bootlegging and illicit liquor is an area which may have implications on public health and general crime scenario.
In this year 2021 large amount of illicit liquor was seized and large number of lahens were destroyed by three Police Stations viz Diglipur, Kalighat and Mayabunder.
As per information in 2021 till date PS Diglipur has recovered 65Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 40.88 ltr illicit liquor, 186 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 14 Nos. 375 ML IMFL Bottles, 47 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 2.6 liter loose IMFL bottles. Other than this around many Lehans were destroyed.
Similarly the Police Station Khalighat recovered 18 Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 2.75 ltrs illicit liquor, 18 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 14 Nos. 375 ML IMFL Bottles, 02 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 1.8 liter loose IMFL bottles. Other than this many Lehans were destroyed.
The Police Station Mayabunder recovered 99 Kgs illicit Rice Beer, 05 ltr illicit liquor, 11 Nos. 180ML IMFL Bottles, 11 Nos. 750 ML IMFL bottles and 1.3 liter loose IMFL bottle. In this case also may Lehans were destroyed.
The entire operation was headed by Inspector Stalin SHO Police Station Diglipur, Inspector Usman Ali, SHO Mayabunder and Sub Inspector Suresh Kumar SHO Khalighat. The operations were monitored by SDPO, Mr. RK Sharma and the entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Vichitra Veer, IPS Superintendent of Police, N&MA.

Ex- Member Pradesh Council urges to introduce Science Stream at Mayabunder College

Port Blair, June 13: Mr. P. K. Haldar Ex-Member Pradesh Council of A & N Island, has urged to introduce Science stream in the subjects i.e. Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Forestry, Fisheries and Zoology in Mahatma Gandhi College at Mayabunder.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Haldar pointed out that there is no science stream in Mahatma Gandhi College, Mayabunder. The Students of these vast areas deprived off science faculties, whereas a number of them are very much interested in studying science, and hence the public are pressing hard.
“This is an old demand of the public of the entire Middle & North Andaman, because, this is the era of science”, he added.
He further mentioned that there must be science steam with the subjects of Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physic, Zoology, Forestry, Fisheries and Zoology in graduation level. The students of the entire Middle & North Andaman will get the opportunities to study science easily, he pointed out.
“The JNRM College of Port Blair city is over loaded, the seats are limited and hence the completion is high. The majority students particularly the rural boys and girls are being deprived off in getting admission in the science sections there. There is a great demand of Hostel Accommodation Port Blair city. This is because; the Hostel accommodation is very limited there”, Mr. Haldar added.
A number of college students have been staying with rental accommodations in the Port Blair city, and it is very expensive too, he pointed out.
Mr. Haldar further pointed out that the distance in between one end of Middle Andaman, i.e. Kadamtala to the other end of North Andaman, i.e. Diglipur, is more than 200 KM. It is a vast area. Mahatma Gandhi College of Mayabunder is the only College in the entire Middle & North Andaman area. It is situated in the centrally located place, Mr. Haldar added.
DC, NMA assures e-pass for farmers; 32 percent population of N & M Andaman received first dose of vaccine

Port Blair, June 11: The Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, Dr. Angel Bhati Chauhan today said that farmers who are facing difficulties in going out to their paddy fields for paddy cultivation may apply for e-pass and the passes will be issued by N & M District Administration.
“Already there is no restriction for farmers going to their own fields as most of the farmers live in their land but if someone needs a movement pass for going to paddy field away from home, will be issued e-pass, if applied,” the DC added.
The matter was raised following concerns expressed by some farmers that during this peak time of paddy cultivation they are afraid of going to the fields, fearing challan. Some people who work in others’ field were also afraid of going out of their houses.
The assurance given by the DC North and Middle Andaman regarding e-pass for farmers, will certainly give a lot of confidence to farmers. In most cases paddy produced during this season by farmers is consumed by them for the entire year and hence this season is very crucial for farmers.
Regarding vaccination, the Deputy Commissioner added that nearly 32 percent of population in North and Middle Andaman has been given first dose of vaccines. There are three centers in North and Middle Andaman where vaccines are being given to Islanders.
Two arrested in Diglipur for bootlegging

Port Blair, June 10: Today credible information was received by Police Station Diglipur regarding bootlegging at Laxmipur and RK Gram areas of Diglipur.
Following this, the police team of PS Diglipur raided two places of Laxmipur and RK Gram areas and recovered 15KG of Rice Beer from Laxmipur area and 10 KG of illicit liquor at RK Gram. It is learnt that two people were arrested in these cases.
