Port Blair, May 02: Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Committee Member, BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI, wrote a letter to Lt. Governor A & N Islands for grant of adequate compensation on account of death of Mr. A. Mani due to crocodile attack.
In his letter he wrote that in an unfortunate tragic incident of crocodile attack on 28th April, 2023, one more person lost his valuable life while fishing near the shore at Shoal Bay No. 8. These kinds of incidents are becoming the usual state of affairs nowadays and therefore some serious steps are required to be taken to save lives.
Further he mentioned that Mr. A. Mani (since deceased), resident of Shoal Bay (Silviculture area) aged about 49 years was married and had two sons and a housewife. One of his sons has just completed 12th & another has entered 12th class now. His wife (Mr. Shanti) attempted to commit suicide after hearing the news of her husband’s death, visualizing the dark clouds surrounding her family’s future. She is presently under the Intensive Care Unit of G. B. Pant Hospital.
He also mentioned that the crocodile attack was during fishing near the creek area, shore of Shoal Bay No. 8. Kindly visualize the situation when the poor fishermen did not return back from fishing and only one part of the body i.e. only right leg was found near the creek by the villagers.
Late A. Mani was the sole bread earner of his family and his family is struggling for survival after his demise. He was a poor fisherman by profession and therefore after his demise, the future of his surviving family members is extremely uncertain & dark.
Concluding this he highlighted that the family needs to be compensated adequately for the loss of life. His one son has just completed 12th and therefore, in order to secure the future of the family, he may be considered for some job of any nature at this stage.
Accordingly, he requested to grant compensation from the Relief Fund and also consider giving some job to his son, on humanitarian grounds, as early as possible.
