Port Blair, May 02: The District Institute of Education & Training (DIET) in collaboration with State Institute of Education (SIE), Port Blair is conducting a 5 days Capacity Building Programme on Learning Outcomes for HM (Primary) and PSTs from May 1 to June 23, 2023 in 8 Phases in three different venues- DIET, SIE and GSS Junglighat.
The first phase of the training programme at Shiksha Sadan was inaugurated by the Secretary (Education) today. During the inaugural session, the Secretary (Education) also released the training module. In his address, he motivated the teachers to attend the training programme and equip themselves with updated pedagogy and assessment methodology to ensure the achievement of learning outcomes of the students at Primary Level. Altogether, 19 HM (P) & 170 PSTs are participating in the first phase of training programme from South Andaman Zone.

Swaraj Dweep Police Cup Concludes
Port Blair, May 02: A Cricket tournament “Swaraj Dweep Police Cup-2023” was organized by Police Station Swaraj Dweep under the supervision of SDPO Swaraj Dweep. The Tournament commenced on 08/04/2023 and concluded with a final match on 25/04/2023. A total of 10 teams participated in the tournament at Swaraj Dweep. It was an initiative to motivate the young sportspersons to participate in such sports activities in future as well as to strengthen friendly relationships between police and the general public. The final match of the tournament was played on 25/04/2023 between Cops Cricketers and Radha Nagar Team.
In the Finale, SP South Andaman Mr. Kalaivanan R, IPS was the Chief guest and the thrilling match was witnessed by all officers, PRI members as well as the general public of the Island. The Radha Nagar team won the final match and lifted the winning trophy of the tournament. The tournament concluded with an appreciation speech delivered by the chief guest. The initiative taken by the police was appreciated by the General Public of Swaraj Dweep Island.
World Veterinary Day Celebrated by Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services
Port Blair, May 02: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration celebrated World Veterinary Day at Veterinary Institutions across the Islands to recognize and celebrate the important roles of Veterinarians in animal and human health and ecology. The theme for World Veterinary Day-2023 was ‘Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness in the veterinary profession.’ As part of the celebration, a programme was organized in the Conference Hall of Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat. The SVOs of South Andaman District participated along with the Directorate Officials and staff of Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat. Mr. G Sudhakar, IAS, Secretary, AH&VS was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, the Secretary congratulated the Veterinarians and expressed his happiness on the facilities provided at Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat with the addition of the latest Higher Technological X Ray machine with digital CR systems. He also appreciated the participation of Veterinarians across the Islands in the event and the role of Veterinarians in the implementation of schemes and programs of the Department.
Earlier, the Secretary inspected the facilities available in the Veterinary Hospital.
In his welcome address, the Director AH&VS, enlightened about the theme of the World Veterinary Day. World Veterinary Day is celebrated on the last Saturday in April annually, with an aim to raise awareness about veterinarians and their utmost devotion to animal health, welfare, and public health. World Veterinary Day was also celebrated in all Veterinary institutions by conducting Veterinary Health camps, Sterilization camps, felicitating farmer activities etc.
With You NGO to launch Book Donation Drive
Port Blair, May 02: The With You (NGO) has decided to launch a book donation drive for old books, references, and guides of classes 9 to 12. The collected books will be distributed to the needy students who cannot afford to buy new books.
The NGO has invited all those who are interested in contributing to this noble cause to come forward and donate their old books.

Splendid Performance by ICAR-CIARI in ICAR Zonal Sports Tournament (Eastern Zone) – 2022 held at ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar
Port Blair, May 02: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI), Port Blair participated in the ICAR Zonal Sports Tournament (Eastern Zone)-2022 held at ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar during 24th to 27th April, 2023. The zonal sports tournament was attended by the participants from 21 ICAR Research Institutes of Eastern zone. The team ICAR-CIARI was represented in the tournament with the coordination of Mrs. G.V. Kantam as Chief-De-Mission and Mrs. Champa Rani Das as Team Manager.
The sports contingent of ICAR-CIARI secured the winner position in table tennis (doubles) and runner-up position in badminton (doubles) events by Mrs. G.V. Kantam and Mrs. Champa Rani Das. In addition, Mrs. Champa Rani Das secured runner-up position in caroms and second position in Javelin throw events. Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI along with Dr. Jai Sunder, Chairman, Sports Committee and Dr. K. Saravanan, Member Secretary, Sports Committee of ICAR-CIARI congratulated and felicitated the participants at ICAR-CIARI campus for their excellent performance and sportsmanship spirit shown in the ICAR zonal sports tournament.
S U Maheshwar Rao presents booklet titled ‘SSS: India @ 75’ on 100 Super Success Stories from Indian Fisheries
Port Blair, May 02: Mr. S U Maheshwar Rao, Governing Body Member, NFDB, Hyderabad, Representative from Andaman and Nicobar Islands met the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS to appraise the various activities taken up by the Administration with regard to Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad. Mr. S U Maheshwar Rao presented a booklet titled ‘SSS: India @ 75’ on 100 Super Success Stories from Indian Fisheries prepared and released by the NFDB, Hyderabad. Wherein, 05 Success Stories pertaining to Andaman & Nicobar Islands were also projected. The Chief Secretary after seeing the booklet expressed happiness on the developmental activities on Indian Fisheries and appreciated the efforts made by the NFDB.
Swaraj Dweep Island becomes Congress Mukth: Lone Congress Ward Member Joins BJP
Port Blair, May 02: In a significant development, the only ward member of the Congress party in Swaraj Dweep’s W no. 4 of Govind Nagar Panchayat, Bidhan Mondal, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today. This move has made Swaraj Dweep Panchayat Congress-free.
Mr. Bidhan Mondal joined the BJP in the presence of various party members, including Mr. M. Vinod, the State Vice President and Prabhari of Swaraj and Shaheed Dweep, Mr. Apurba Roy, the District General Secretary of South Andaman District and Zilla Parishad Member, Mr. Guru Das Das, the Mandal President of Swaraj and Shaheed Dweep, and Mr. Ajit Kumar Roy, the Pradhan of Govind Nagar, along with other district and Mandal office bearers and party workers from Swaraj Dweep.
The event was held under the leadership of Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, the State President of the BJP.
MPL 33rd National U-17 Chess Championship–2023 begins in Jalandhar, Punjab
Port Blair, May 02: Around 250 players across India are participating in the prestigious event in which 3 young budding chess players, (two Boys and one Girl) from Andaman & Nicobar Islands viz D Shrestha Vijay, A Chirag Kumar and Jasleen Kaur Bohra are taking part in the Championship.
The event will be held for 9 days over 11 rounds under Swiss System in Classical time control from 01.05.2023 to 09.05.2023. The total Prize money for the championship is Rupees Nine Lakhs which will be awarded among top twenty players in Boys & Girls Category.
