Port Blair, May 30: Although people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are still waiting for heavy rainfall, the IMD today said that the much-awaited monsoon has finally arrived over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which will bring a sense of relief to the residents. After a delayed onset and an extended summer accompanied by heatwaves, the islands have experienced a dip in water reservoir levels, causing concerns over daily water needs in the cities.
As per IMD, recent rainfall has indicated a positive arrival of the monsoon in the region. “Today, on May 30, 2023, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into several parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal, Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea, and East central Bay of Bengal. The current position of the Northern Limit of Southwest Monsoon passes through 5°N/80°E, 6.5°N/83°E, 10°N/88°E, 14°N/92°E, and 17°N/95°E. Favorable conditions are anticipated for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into the Maldives & Comorin area, remaining parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal, Southeast Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, and Northeast Bay of Bengal in the next 2-3 days,” experts from IMD told Andaman Sheekha today.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), clear monsoon rainfall has begun in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The current weather conditions are favorable, with light rainfall observed in some places. Long Islands received 55.8mm of rainfall, Mayabunder 05mm, Port Blair 11.7mm, Hut Bay remained dry, Car Nicobar 09.2mm, Nancowry Islands 0.8mm, and Nicobar 25.8mm.

The situation remains favorable, and the coming days are expected to bring relief to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with light rainfall.
The arrival of the monsoon brings hope for replenishing the water reservoirs and fulfilling the daily water requirements of the island’s residents. The local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging residents to take necessary precautions while enjoying the cooler weather.

John Wilbert & Vikramaditya
Port Blair, May 30: The recent sighting of a large crocodile in the Nallah connecting Mathura Area in Bambooflat has sparked deep concerns among residents living near the waterway. The presence of the crocodile has raised fears for the safety of both the local population and their livestock.
According to local villagers, a massive crocodile was spotted yesterday evening in the Nallah from the concrete bridge of Mathura village. The officer stated that the wildlife team of the Forest Department has already examined the area and deployed staff to monitor the situation closely.
To address the issue, the Forest Department is planning to install cages in the Nallah to trap the crocodiles. The officer assured that these traps will be placed in strategic locations promptly to capture the crocodiles and ensure the safety of the local residents.

Delegation of AAWSA meets Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying

May 30, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, May 30: A delegation of Andaman Adventure Water Sports Association (AAWSA) led by its President Mr. M. Vinod Mr. Saikat Biswas and Mr. Anil Meshack met Mr. Parshottam Rupala, the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Govt. of India on 29 May 23.
The delegation discussed various issues concerning the Sports Fishing industry in Andamans.
Fishing attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists. However in the last few years the sector has witnessed a considerable downfall and hardly 10 boats out of the 61 registered boats have been operational and applied for Sports Fishing permits.
Presently Sports Fishing boats are not permitted to operate for 3 months in a year i.e., Jun-Jul-Aug of every year. Since these are the summer vacation months and a large number of tourists visit Andamans during this period, the delegation requested the minister to remove the ban and make Sports fishing a yearlong activity.
All boats operating in A&N Islands pay yearly renewal fee except sports fishing boats. Sports fishing boats are required to pay a permit fee of Rs.2500 per foreign national & Rs.500 per Indian guest for every trip. The delegation requested that this fee may be reduced at par with all other tourist boats.
Foreign boats visiting Andamans are allowed to conduct Scuba Diving and Snorkeling in the permitted zones of A&N Islands; however Sports fishing boats are not permitted to de-board their guests even in the permitted islands. The delegation requested that Sports Fishing boats may be permitted to allow the anglers onboard to swim and snorkel under the supervision of a trained guide. This will give them a sigh of relief from the hot sun during fishing and also enable them to explore the marine life of Andamans.
The Chatham new vehicle ferry jetty has been used by Sports Fishing Operators since its construction. Since the jetty is not being used by any other boat, the delegation requested that the jetty may be developed to cater to requirements of sports fishing operators with facilities for tourists including fresh water and power supply.
As per Mr. M. Vinod, implementation of these measures will surely boost sports fishing in the islands. It will not only attract a large number of foreign tourists to these islands but also provide employment opportunities to the local youth of A&N Islands.
Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured all possible help and support to address the concerns of the stakeholders.

Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee was the main speaker in the Seminar.
Speaking on the occasion, D. Ayyappan said that the working class in the country is facing various challenges particularly since the last two decades. He said that the BJP-led central government is trying to implement the 4 Labour Codes by merging all the existing labor laws despite stiff opposition from the combined central trade unions.
