Voluntary Blood Donation Camp at Galathea Hall, NSRY (PBR)

Port Blair, Aug 04: Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) in coordination with Blood Center, G.B. Pant Hospital, Directorate of Health Services, supports the Commodore Superintendent, Naval Ship Repair Yard, Port Blair to organize a blood donation camp at Galathea Hall, NSRY (Pbr) on 04/08/2023 at 0900 hrs. As part of Golden Jubilee celebration, NSRY (Pbr)., 70 units of blood were donated by the voluntary donors.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society and Director, State Blood Transfusion Council, A & N Islands. The Blood Donation camp was facilitated by Dr.ShahinaMustaquim, Deputy Director (BS)/Medical Officer i/c. The donors were examined for their eligibility to donate blood and briefed the donors on various aspects and importance of blood donation.
Mr. Desai Aayushi, Lieutenant, Deputy Manager (Hull) for Commodore Superintendent, Naval Ship Repair Yard C/o. The Navy Office, Port Blair organized the camp and made arrangements for conducting the camp successfully.
The technical team from Blood Bank, G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair and A & N AIDS Control Society ensured that the donated blood units were screened for the blood transmissible diseases. They also examined the donors for eligibility criteria.Donors’ certificates were also distributed to the voluntary donors.

Port Blair, Aug 04: As technology continues to shape the world, it brings numerous benefits and conveniences. However, it also opens doors for malicious individuals to exploit vulnerabilities, leading to an alarming surge in cybercrime incidents. Today, to find ourselves facing an unprecedented increase in cyber threats, making it crucial for to stay informed and vigilant to counter these digital dangers.
To address this issue, some of the key Points to be adapted are:
Keeping operating systems and software applications updated and patched from trusted sources on a regular basis. Ensuring latest Operating Systems/Versions/ Software installed which have the latest security features inbuilt.
Procure and use only GENUINE and LATEST software & hardware from trusted sources, to benefit from the latest security & privacy features.
Using reputable antivirus software and keeping it up to date. Regularly scan your system for malware and ensure that real-time protection is enabled.
Be cautious, when opening email attachments or downloading files from untrusted sources. Scan all attachments and downloads with antivirus software before opening them.
Enabling the built-in firewall in the operating system. Firewalls help block unauthorized access and protect against network-based attacks.
Be cautious while visiting websites and clicking on links. Avoid suspicious websites and only download files from trusted sources. Consider using a web browser, with built-in security features.
Be cautious of emails, messages, or pop-ups asking for personal information or urging you to click on a link. Avoid providing sensitive information unless being certain of the sender’s identity and legitimacy.
Create strong, unique passwords for your online accounts and change them periodically. Avoid using easily guessable passwords or reusing passwords across multiple accounts and configure a limit for password attempts.
Regularly backing up important files and data to an external hard drive, cloud storage, or another secure location. In case of a malware attack, restore the system to a clean state.
Performing regular full system scans with antivirus software to detect and remove any potential threats.
Stay informed about the latest malware threats and security practices from trusted sources such as CERT-In.

SBM Ambassador visits Govt. Primary / Middle school Dignabad

Port Blair, Aug 04: To check the cleanliness and sanitation under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Mr. Naresh Chander Lal Padmashri Awardee and Ambassador Swachh Bharat Mission A & N Islands today visited the Govt. Primary and Middle School Dignabad and interacted with the students and teachers to maintain cleanliness at their school premises as well as to their respective societies.
Mr. Lal also highlighted about the importance of water and urged them to save water. He also requested to the students to keep away themselves from Alcohol and Drugs. Teacher – in – charge Baby Nazrana accompanied SBM Ambassador during the visit.

Waste to Wonder competition and the campaign of Meri Mati MeraDesh

Port Blair, Aug 04: Various activities under the theme of Meri MaatiMeraDesh and Waste to Wealth organized by PBMC.
Port Blair Municipal Council in collaboration with GIZ India conducted various activities at Kaithan Kalyan Mandap. Dilkhush Meena IAS, Secretary, PBMC was the chief Guest on the occasion. Mr. Aziz Ur Rehman, Ward Councilor was the Guest of honor.
Students from Six schools participated in the event, Carmel Senior Secondary School, Nirmala Sr. Secondary School, Ummat Public School, GDMS, Govt. Boys Sr. Sec. School. The students and faculties exhibited the items created by waste material. Apart from this the residents of ward no 6 also participated in the Waste to wealth activities. The winners were awarded by the Port Blair Municipal Council &Mr. Aziz Ur Rehman, Ward Councilor Ward No-6.PBMC has also started a new initiative “Waste Depo-Waste to Gift” in collaboration with GIZ India in Ward No 6. Around 15 households deposited their waste of about 51 Kgs and in return they were given a Cloth bag, a plant and a crate as gift.Citizens are requested to deposit (Min 5Kgs) the waste at the Depo and get a gift in return. Mr. Aziz Ur Rehman, Ward Councilor Ward No-6 motivated the residents and students to actively participate in the “Waste Depo-Waste to Gift” and get the success initiative.
As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav PBMC is celebrating the ‘Meri MaatiMeraDesh’ Campaign. Under which oaths were administered to the students, residents and PBMC officials in honor of Brave Martyrs & Freedom Fighters.
Apart from this Port Blair Municipal Council is organizing a One Minute Short Video competition on the theme “Meri MaatiMeraDesh.” Participants are encouraged to create one minute short videos about our freedom fighters, veers, and heroes who fought bravely for the nation’s independence. Participants can upload their submissions on their own Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts and tag our official PBMC accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. To ensure your submissions are recognized, please use the hashtag #PBMC TALENT FEST. The competition is open for entries upto 13/08/2023. Best entries will be rewarded.

Global Academy of Modern Fitness and CRC Collaborate for Empowering Fitness Program

Port Blair, August 2: The “Global Academy of Modern Fitness” and the “Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of persons with disabilities” joined hands to conduct an exceptional Mental and Physical Fitness Program at Brookshabad. Smti. Sumithamol, Resident Nodal Officer, and her dedicated team played a pivotal role in making this initiative a resounding success.
Led by Ex Sub inspector Andaman and Nicobar police (IRBn) and International Laughter Ambassador Grand Master Shihan MS Murugan, the program included empowering sessions on Self Defense, Laughter Yoga, and Meditation. It focused not only on Divyangjans (persons with disabilities) but also involved their families and staff.
The program showcased the immense value it holds, empowering participants to become strong and resilient individuals, confidently navigating through society. All divyangjan individuals are wholeheartedly invited to join this transformative journey free of cost. The program will continue every Wednesday from 09:30 AM to 10:20 AM, offering numerous benefits to elevate physical and mental well-being.

Port Blair, Aug 04: In continuation to earlier announcement, it is brought to the notice of the electricity consumers and general public that, to manage the shortfall of power generation through available power, ongoing load shedding will be continued in Port Blair and South Andaman area during evening peak hours from 1630 Hrs. to 0100 Hrs. for one hour and hour, if required, on a daily basis as per schedule given below.
The below mentioned load shedding schedule is purely tentative and the duration & timing may vary depending on available power generation and other technical reasons. The schedule will be enforced for next 15 days or till further intimation.

Embarkation Notice

Port Blair, Aug 04: The Vessel SINDHU will sail from PORT BLAIR to KOLKATA via MAYABUNDER on 05.08.2023 at 0800 Hrs as per the following programs.Excess baggage will be loaded from 1400 Hrs to 1600 Hrs on 04.08.2023.
Embarkation of passengers will commence from 0600 Hrs on 05.08.2023. The embarkation of passengers will be closed one hour before the schedule time.Passengers reporting late will not be allowed to board the vessel.
Bonafide passengers may please note that: –
The vessel will sail only after completion of survey procedure which will commence on completion of embarkation of passengers for issuance of ‘B’ Certificate as per MS Act.
The accompanied baggage exceeding the prescribed norms is likely to be rejected. The size and weight of each package should be 1 Mtrs x 0.5 Mtrs. and within 20 Kgs. It must show in bold letters the name and the ticket number of the passenger. The packages found bigger in size and more in weight will be rejected. The excess baggage will be subject to double the rate of freight.
Note: The passengers are strictly advised to reach well in time as the embarkation of passengers and excess baggage will be closed one hour before the scheduled time. Those passengers arriving late will not be entertained to board the vessel.

UK Invites India’s Young Women to be British High Commissioner for a Day

Port Blair, Aug 04: The British High Commission has organized the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ competition annually since 2017 to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child (11 October).
Last year’s winner was Jagriti Yadav from Lucknow who experienced a broad range of diplomatic activities including meeting Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, the Mayor of West Yorkshire Ms. Tracy Brabin, and the Executive Chairman of Wipro Mr. Rishad Premji. Jagriti also launched a book honoring 75 Indian Women in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) alongside Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries. Find out more about the SDGs, here.
