Major Fire Reported from Long Island; Nine Cottages of a private resort Gutted

August 24, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

John Wilbert &Vikramaditya
Port Blair, August 24: A private resort, Blue Planet Resort, located on Long Island, Middle Andaman experienced a devastating fire that occurred yesterday night. As per details, the resort suffered heavy damages due to the fire, which was reported at around 10:30 pm.
The resort staff noticed thick smoke emerging from one of the rooms, prompting them to inform the local police check post and the Pradhan of Long Islands about the incident. Initially, both the police team and nearby residents collaborated to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby residential houses, which were in close proximity to the resort.
However, due to the absence of a dedicated fire station in Long Islands, the situation became more challenging. Local villagers quickly assembled and rushed to the scene to assist. They tried their best to control the fire by using buckets to throw water from a nearby ring well water source.
Mr. Kamaraj, the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Long Island told Andaman Sheekha Daily that upon receiving news of the fire, they immediately responded and joined the efforts to control the fire. Despite their best attempts, the fire rapidly consumed the wooden resort structure. While they managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses, the lack of proper firefighting equipment and expertise hindered their efforts.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, Mr. Kamaraj demanded for a fire station at Long Island to prevent such incidents and requested technical firefighting support from the administration and police department. Although the exact extent of the loss is yet to be determined, sources indicate that all nine air-conditioned huts in the resort were destroyed in the fire.

August 24, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

John Wilbert & Vikramaditya
Port Blair, August 24: A fire incident was reported from the jungle between Kakana and Pilpillow villages, located in the Kamorta Island, yesterday morning around 10:00 AM. The Captain of the area promptly informed both the Police Station and the Fire Control Room about the fire. However, due to the fire’s location deep within the jungle, responding to the incident proved to be challenging, sources said.
As per information gathered here, initially, the police and fire service team headed towards Pilpillow Junction by road, which was the nearest accessible point. From there, they discovered that the fire was situated around 10 to 12 kilometers away from the main road, deep within the jungle between Pilpillow and Kakana Village.
As per details, after assessing the situation, a team consisting of six police and fire service staff proceeded towards the fire site using a Gemini Boat on the sea route. After approximately an hour of travel, the team reached the location of the fire. After reaching the site they employed the beating method to extinguish the fire.
Due to the delay in receiving the information, the fire had already spread over an area of about 1.5 kilometers, affecting nearby grasses and bushes. Nevertheless, upon arrival, the combined efforts of the Police Team and firefighting personnel brought the situation under control within a few hours. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

August 24, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Port Blair, Aug 24: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to finalize the Circle Rate for Kerala Puram, VS Palli, and Smith Island Regions of North Andaman.

Highlighting a pressing concern raised by the residents of Kerala Puram, VS Palli, and Smith Island regions of North Andaman, particularly in the context of the pending finalization of the circle rate for these areas, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the circle rate for land in these three regions of North Andaman has not been determined yet.

Referring to an Order No. 27412019/F. No. 3-21/SR/stamp Duty/2015, issued by Andaman and Nicobar Administration Dated: 22 October 2019, in his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor the Member of Parliament said that this delay in finalizing the circle rate is causing a serious problem for the residents. Without an established circle rate, the residents are unable to carry out land transactions, even in cases of urgent need. This situation is causing great inconvenience and financial loss to the people of these regions.

He pointed out that the circle rate for land sale has been established for other regions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands long back, leaving Kerala Puram, VS Palli, and Smith Island regions in a state of uncertainty.

In light of the above circumstances, I requested the Lt. Governor to direct the concerned department to expedite the process of finalizing the circle rate for Kerala Puram, VS Palli, and Smith Island regions.
