Passenger Shed at Shaheed Dweep Jetty fails to Provide Relief; Residents Demand Immediate Action

December 18, 2023 by sanjib Leave a Comment

Vikramaditya
Shaheed Dweep, Dec 18: The passenger shed constructed at Shaheed Dweep Jeety continues to be a source of discomfort for both local residents and tourists, failing to offer the expected relief despite earlier reported modifications. Almost two years ago, Andaman Sheekha Daily highlighted the issue, prompting some adjustments to the structure. However, the recent modifications are deemed grossly inadequate, leaving passengers dissatisfied.
Andaman Sheekha Daily’s initial report revealed that the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works had constructed the passenger shed at the tip of Shaheed Dweep Jetty using semi-transparent sheets. This construction material led to an unbearably hot environment inside the shed, making it impossible for passengers to utilize. It was observed that passengers continued to prefer standing outside the shed, even in the scorching Sun, than sitting inside the passenger shed..
Subsequent to the publication, Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works implemented certain modifications, including the addition of large windows and the creation of openings for improved air circulation. While these adjustments have mitigated the heat to some extent, a considerable number of people still opt not to sit inside the passenger shed due to lingering discomfort.
Residents of Shaheed Dweep are now urging the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works to take more effective measures. Specifically, they propose the installation of reflective screens on the roof of the shed to prevent excessive heating. Additionally, they advocate for the application of reflective sheets on the walls facing the sun, aiming to maintain a bearable temperature inside the shed, especially during hot and humid days.
