National Tele Mental Health Programme (Tele MANAS) Launched in A&N Islands

Port Blair, Dec. 19:The Government of India (GoI) in its Union Budget 2022, announced the National Tele Mental Health Programme of India, Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele MANAS) to provide universal access to equitable, accessible, affordable and quality mental health care through 24×7 Tele-Mental Health Services as a digital component of the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) across all States and UTs with assured linkages.
The public can access the Tele MANAS helpline by dialing toll-free number or short code 1800 891 4416 or 14416. This call will be an IVRS based audio calling only, with a timely auto-call back approach. Through the automated callback service, the caller will first be attended to by a trained Counsellor. Based on the level of care required, the Counsellor will either provide the care needed within their capabilities or refer the caller for specialist care. If the caller requires specialized care, the call will be handled by a mental health specialist (clinical psychologist, psychiatric social worker, psychiatric nurse, or a psychiatrist). This level of service will contain both audio as well as video-based options. In case the caller requires urgent in-person intervention/complex evaluations and management, they will be referred to the nearest in-person service for physical consultation and appropriate management.
The Tele MANAS Cell of A&N Islands is functioning from the ANIIMS campus and the calls are attended by trained Counsellors and Psychologists under the mentorship of Psychiatrists of ANIIMS. The people of A&N Islands are encouraged to access the Tele MANAS Helpline toll free number 14416 to avail advice and counselling in relation to stress management, exam stress, family problems, addictions, phobias and any other mental health related issues.

Provisional Statement of Marks Released for Nursing Officer CBT

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Provisional Statement of Marks in order of marks obtained by the candidates in CBT held from 11.07.2023 to 15.07.2023 for the post of Nursing Officer under A&N Health Department has been uploaded in the Administration’s website www.andaman.gov.in and e-recruitment portal https://erecruitment.andaman.gov.in. The Second List of candidates called for document verification and the list of documents to be produced have also been uploaded on the above-mentioned websites. The verification of documents is scheduled on 26.12.2023 at 1000hrs in the Conference Hall, Directorate of Health Services, near Cellular Jail, Port Blair.
All the candidates as per the published list shall appear before the verification committee in person along with all original documents as per the list published in the above websites, for verification of the certificates/testimonials on the scheduled date and time without fail.
The candidates have been informed that they shall not be considered for selection if they do not respond and attend for document verification on the scheduled date. Adoption Awareness Program Organized by State Adoption Resource Agency

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) under Directorate of Social Welfare organized an adoption awareness program at Anganwadi Center, Fisheries Colony, Dairy Farm, engaging numerous women from the community. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social welfare) highlighted the importance of Legal Adoption and necessary steps measures that need to be taken to safeguard the wellbeing of children for admitting adoption.
Shri.G. Koteshwar Rao, Program Manager of the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding adoption. Providing accurate information helps dispel misconceptions and encourages a more positive outlook on adoption.
Smti. Rehaneth Begum Program Manager (SCPS) discussed the welfare of children and the specific needs they may have. This fosters understanding about the responsibilities and challenges associated with adopting a child and also provide an introduction to adoption, explaining its significance and how it positively impacts the lives of children and families. Miss. Mamuni Incharge of SAA, explained the roles and responsibilities of adoption agencies in facilitating the adoption process, matching families with children, and providing ongoing guidance and support. Smti.T. Dharmila, Program Officer (SARA) discussed the legal procedures and requirements associated with adoption, ensuring potential adoptive parents understand the legal framework involved.

Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra campaign held at Wards 19 & 20

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) campaign continued its urban outreach in Ward No. 19 and Ward No. 20, witnessing an enthusiastic response from the residents. The specially designed IEC Van dedicated to the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra was warmly received at Ward No. 19 by the Ward Councilor, Shri Vetrivelu and local residents. A screening of informative videos was screened. A Sankalp pledge was administered by Ward Councilor, Shri Vetrivelu, highlighting the significance of unified efforts towards advancing India’s development. He highlighted the significance of the Yatra and urged active participation to reap its benefits. Emphasizing the importance of spreading awareness, the Ward Councillor encouraged the gathering to disseminate information about the array of Government of India schemes operational in the Islands. A cultural program was also held. The event also featured ‘Meri Kahani Meri Zubani,’ a platform where beneficiaries shared firsthand experiences of the Government’s flagship schemes, emphasizing their life-altering outcomes.
In the evening, the IEC Van of the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ was given a warm welcome by Smti Pandi Selvi, Ward Councillor of Ward No. 20 and local residents. Videos showcasing the initiatives of Viksit Bharat by the Government of India were screened, followed by the administration of the Sankalp Pledge. Inspirational stories shared during ‘Meri Kahani Meri Zubani’ further motivated individuals to avail themselves of these beneficial schemes. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of commendable workers from PBMC for their exceptional contributions to the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ campaign across both Wards.
The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra event will be held on Dec. 20 at 10 AM at Brookshabad Community Hall in Ward No. 21. Later in the day, at 3 PM, the event will be held at Durga Puja Pandal, Brichgunj, Ward No. 22. This event is a golden opportunity for area residents to engage and benefit from various schemes implemented by the GoI. All area residents have been requested to take part in this program and find out the diverse benefits offered through various departmental and Council initiatives.

Workshop on Elephant Management Conducted at Biological Park Chidiyatapu

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Department of Environment & Forests, A&N Islands conducted a two days Workshop for the Field Staff and Elephant Mahouts at Biological Park Chidiyatapu on Dec. 18 and 19.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Dr. S. Dinesh Kannan, IFS and was conducted under the guidance of Shri A. C Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu. Renouned Veterinarian & Padma Shri Awardee, Shri. K. K. Sharma, Professor, Assam Agriculture University, Guwahati also known as Elephant Man of Asia and Shri Shubham Patil, Veterinarian, Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust, Jamnagar, experienced in Elephant Management were the Resource Persons for the Workshop to impart useful information and knowledge of elephant behaviour and health issues and identification of significant changes in the gigantic polite mammal and its management and proper care.
The Workshop was attended by 50 participants, Mahouts and Camp Officers nominated by different Forest Divisions .A field visit to the Elephant Camp was also undertaken for thorough understanding of various facts pertaining to elephant care and management. Officers from Veterinary Department also joined the programme for their enrichment. All the participants actively participated in the Workshop and clarified their doubts. The programme concluded with presentation of souvenir to the Resource Persons and distribution of certificates to all participants. The workshop concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri A.C Tilak, Deputy Director, Biological Park, Chidiyatapu.

Awareness-cum-Fitness Programme under Hasgulla Club Promotes Drug Awareness

Port Blair, Dec. 19: The Directorate of Social Welfare organized Awareness-cum Fitness Programme under Hasgulla Club as part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Jogger’s Park on Dec. 17. The fitness programme was aimed to promote drug awareness and encourage a healthy lifestyle among the participants.
Around 48 beneficiaries including children from CCIs and general public participated in the programme. The event was conducted by Shihan Shri M.S. Murgan.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare) highlighted the importance of fitness programmes and educated the participants about the benefits of exercises and meditation such as jogging, cycling or dancing, to release endorphins and improve mood.
