Celebration of Rafi Sahab’s 99 death anniversary at Tagore Auditorium
Port Blair, Dec 26: They say “When words fail, music speaks” On 24 Dec 2023 An evening of mesmerizing renditions and soulful melodies. The legend Mohammad Rafi would have showered abundant blessings on the singers who were brought together for a fantabulous evening to celebrate Rafi Sahab’s 99 death anniversary at Tagore Auditorium. The program was curated by the legendary Sur Sangam, founded by Mr. K. Mammi in 2010.
The evening was a star studded affair with singers like K Mammi, Rajesh Anand, Shakeel, Shailender, Aboo, Akhtar, John, Suresh, Minaz and Koyal.
The event was graced by Mr. Mohammad Jadwet and Mrs. Shehnaz Jadwet, the most influential social worker Mrs. Komal Anand and Dr. Rajinder Singh who is a connoisseur of music.
67th SGFI National School Games Football Tournament to Kick Off in Port Blair
Port Blair, Dec. 26: The Department of Education, Andaman & Nicobar Administration will be organizing the prestigious 67th SGFI National School Games Football for Boys U-17 at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair from 27th December, 2023 to 05th January, 2024. The opening ceremony and inaugural match will be held at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair tomorrow (Dec. 27) at 2.30 pm. Smti. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Education), A&N Administration will grace the occasion as chief guest. For the first time, a total number of 34 State/UT teams are participating in this mega event.
The States and UTs to participate in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, KVS, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Indian Public School Conference (IPSC), Tripura, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi, International Board Schools Sports Organization, Manipur, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra Nagar Haweli, CBSE and ICSE.
The general public have been invited to witness the inaugural ceremony as well as matches.
Public Advisory: Precautionary Measures Against COVID-19 and ILI
Port Blair, Dec. 26: In view of the recent increase in the COVID-19 cases across the country and the world and nominal rise in Influenza Like Illness (ILI) cases across these Islands, as a matter of abundant precaution, the general public have been advised to wear mask in the crowded places. All have also been advised to follow coughing/sneezing etiquettes, personal hygiene and social distancing, wherever applicable to avoid any complications.
Chief Secretary Pays Homage on 19th Anniversary of 2004 Tsunami
Port Blair, Dec. 26:The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, today led the Islanders in paying homage to those who lost their lives in the devastating Tsunami of 2004.
At a solemn function organized by A&N Administration on the occasion of 19th Anniversary of Tsunami at the Tsunami Memorial at Water Sports Complex here, the Chief Secretary placed wreath and offered floral tributes at the Memorial. This was followed by offering of floral tributes by DGP, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva(IPS), PCCF, Dr. T.S Ashok Kumar(IFS), Chairperson, PBMC, Smti S Selvi, Councillors of PBMC, Senior Officers of A&N Administration, prominent citizens, school students and general public.
An all Religion Prayer Meeting (Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha) and a two-minute silence was observed to remember those who lost their lives in the devastating Tsunami.
‘Hasya Kavi Sammelan’ to organize at the ITF Ground by the Official Language Department
Port Blair, Dec 26: In the series of programmes to be organized during the Island Tourism Festival-2023, a ‘Hasya Kavi Sammelan’ will be organized at the ITF Ground by the Official Language Department, Andaman and Nicobar Administration on Dec.28, 2023 at 6 pm.
In this programme, well known Hasya Poets from the mainland, Dr. Sarvesh Kumar Asthana, Dr. Praveen Shukla, Mr. Dinesh Raghuvanshi, Mr. Hemant Pandey and Dr. Sonrupa Vishal will present their humorous compositions. General public have been cordially invited to this program.
Science Centre, Port Blair to organize a State Level Science Project Competition10th January, 2024
Port Blair, Dec 26: The Science Centre, Port Blair will be organizing a State Level Science Project Competition for school students studying in class IX to XI standard. Each School can submit a maximum of two projects (working) related to Science for the competition along with one student per project. The competition shall be held at Science Centre on 10th January, 2024 from 12.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The best three projects will be awarded with trophies including cash awards.
In this connection, it is requested that each School may select and sponsor two interested students alongwith name of their working model/project on Science through Whatsapp No. 9434263302 latest by 9th January, 2024 before 2 pm. 3-days cultural programmes, Prelude to the ITF-2023
Port Blair, Dec 26: The 3-days cultural programmes, being the Prelude to the ITF-2023 organized by Directorate of IP&T in association with the Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration concluded today. A series of cultural programmes presented by the artistes of EZCC and Local Cultural Organizations delighted a packed to capacity audience on the last day of the Prelude to ITF-2023 at Amphitheatre, Anarkali here this evening. This event was the glimpse of the five days ITF which will be organized by the Directorate of IP&T at ITF Ground and in various parts of the Islands from Dec. 27 to 31, 2023.
People from all walks of life witnessed the scintillating performances by the artists from EZCC & Local Cultural Organizations who performed dances at their best drawing loud applause from the audience. The cultural programme unfolded with a skillful presentation of ‘Bengali Dance’ by Nrityarpana Dance Academy followed by a captivating Bharatnatyam classical dance performance by the students of KRG Kalai Kaveri School. The artists of EZCC from Jammu & Kashmir presented Rouf folk dance depicting the onset of spring season which is an integral part of Kashmiri people. The EZCC troupe from Assam presented Bihu Folk dance much to the delight of the audience present at the Amphitheatre. The traditional Bihu Folk dance with beating of drums by men and the dance by their women counterpart enthralled the gathering who in turn cheered the artistes till the end of their performance.
The power-packed ‘Shiv Tandav’ performance by the inmates of Seva Niketan drew loud applause. Apart from this, Bollywood dance performances by the artistes of Jittu Entertainment and Bengali Folk Dance & Song by ‘Netajinagar Sanskritik Sanstha’ also drew appreciation by the gathering. The 3-days Prelude to ITF -2023 has indeed generated a festive atmosphere and set the tone for the grand inauguration of the much awaited ITF -2023 by the Islanders and the visitors when it unfolds with fanfare at ITF Ground on Dec. 27, 2023.
Additional Vehicle Ferry Service during night hours between Chatham & Bambooflat
Port Blair, Dec 26: In view of Island Tourism Festival 2023, to facilitate the commuters of Bambooflat and its adjoining areas the Directorate of Shipping Services will be operating additional Vehicle Ferry Service during night hours between Chatham & Bambooflat from 27th to 31st December, 2023. The commuters of the above areas can avail the ferry service till the completion of ITF 2023.
