Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: In accordance with the A&N Islands Marine Fishing Rules, 2004 (Amendment-2019), the period commencing from 15th day of April to 31st day of May-2025 (inclusive of the day of commencement and day of expiry) shall be closed season for Fishing Vessels plying bottom trawling gear and for shark fishing in A&N Waters. The fishermen have been advised to strictly comply with the above closed season for bottom trawling gear and for Shark Fishing in A&N Waters.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 11: The Directorate of Education and the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs A & N Admn., in collaboration with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association, is set to organize the first-ever FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament- ‘The Andaman-Nicobar Chess Mahasangram 2025’ in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The tournament will take place on April 19-20, 2025, at Netaji Stadium, Sri Vijayapuram, in Open Ground, under Floodlights. This event is open to all players, providing participants with the opportunity to earn official FIDE Rapid Ratings, a great chance for chess enthusiasts to gain recognition and boost their rankings.
There is no entry fee for the tournament; however, AICF Registration for the year 2025-26 is mandatory for all participants. The last date for registration is April 12, 2025, by 5:30 PM.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Department of Art and Culture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration in collaboration with National Book Trust conducted ‘Literature Festival’ from March, 27 to 29, 2025 at TGCE Auditorium and ‘Book Fair’ from April, 1 to 10, 2025 at ITF Ground, Sri Vijaya Puram. Students from various stages of the schools under South Andaman and Wimberlygunj Education Zone competed in different competitions in the ‘Literature Festival’. The winners of these competitions were felicitated in the closing ceremony on 10.04.2025.
Students of 50 Schools from these Zones were also invited to witness the Book Fair held at ITF to inculcate the habit of book reading and to equip themselves with the innovative ideas and enhance their knowledge. About 250 students escorted by teachers were brought to the venue and dropped back to their schools every day. Altogether 2500 students were benefited during the ‘Book Fair’.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Directorate of Social Welfare, under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (NMBA) and as part of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), organized a comprehensive awareness program on ‘Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse’ yesterday at Ferrargunj, Gram Panchayat, South Andaman in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Health Department, Police Department, and Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman. The initiative aimed to educate the local population on the harmful effects of substance abuse and to promote a united effort in building a healthy, drug-free society.
Accordingly, Department of Social Welfare officials discussed the psychological, social, and emotional impact of addiction and emphasized the significance of early intervention and support systems. The Health Department representatives elaborated on the health-related consequences of substance abuse and encouraged the use of available medical and counseling services. Police Department officials addressed the legal aspects of drug and alcohol abuse, highlighted the role of law enforcement in prevention, and informed attendees about support services like the 112 helpline while the IRCA personnel shared details about rehabilitation options, recovery programs, and community-based approaches to fighting addiction.
The program concluded with a community interaction session. The Social Welfare Department will continue such programs during the month of April-May.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11:ICDS Project, Ferrargunj under the Directorate of Social Welfare observed the 4th Day of 7th POSHAN Pakhwada 2025. The Poshan Pakhwada focused on the First Golden 1000 days of life, outreach activities on popularization of beneficiary module in POSHAN tracker and demonstration sessions on energy dense food including millet were carried out at all Anganwadi Centres under ICDS Ferrargunj.
During the program, paramedical staff, mothers, PRI members, ICDS staff and staff of POSHAN Abhiyan were present.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram has established an ‘Innovation Hub’ for the benefit of the school & college students. The objective of the Hub is to engage students in developing new designs and fabricate new items, innovative projects, products & crafts after school hours on Saturday & Sunday. The innovative experiment shall promote independent thinking, problem solving ability and also generate innovative ideas.
Since inception, around 2000 students have visited the Hub, many enthusiasts have also enrolled as annual member and dropped their innovation ideas in the ‘Idea Box’. The membership details are as under: –

Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr.11:The Staff Selection Commission is going to conduct the Skill Test of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2024 on 17.04.2025 at Sri Vijaya Puram Examination Centre. Diglipur, Apr.11: As part of the ongoing celebrations for the International Year of Cooperatives-2025, an awareness program was organized today at BVB Mondal Public Secondary School, Diglipur. The event aimed to promote student involvement in the cooperative movement and to inspire the younger generation to adopt cooperative values for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The program was conducted by Shri Ajit Singh, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS-I), Diglipur, along with Shri K. Simachalam, Inspector of Cooperative Societies, and Shri Saikat Nath, Sub-Inspector of
Cooperative Societies. During the session, the speakers highlighted the importance of cooperatives in rural development and social empowerment.
They encouraged students to actively participate in cooperative initiatives and to embrace values such as self-help, democracy, equality, and solidarity. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, reflecting a growing interest in cooperative principles among the youth.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The general public/consumers and Government Departments have been informed that the power supply will remain suspended at Hope Town to Shoal Bay, Wimberlygunj to Jirkatang & Ferrargunj to Rampur from 8 AM to 2 PM on Apr. 12 in connection with replacement of damaged 2 Nos. HT RCC pole at Lockoline, Wimberlygunj and to complete the stretching of HT lines at Naya Basti for creating inter connection points.
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 11: The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services promotes Animal Husbandry Activities for livelihood generation of rural farmers. Animal Husbandry ventures contribute to improved income, nutrition and employment opportunities.
Backyard Poultry keeping & Piggery provides a significant source of income for the rural household. To encourage and support the farmers piglets and chicks are supplied through the Departmental farms. Today piglets of ‘Ghungroo’ breed were distributed to the farmers of Wandoor village by the Veterinary Dispensary, Manglutan. ‘Ghungroo’ is an indigenous pig of West Bengal well known for its high prolificacy and adaptability to low input production system. Day old vanaraja chicks were also distributed to the farmers of Wandoor Village. The distribution was carried out in the presence of Shri Adhir Das, Gram Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Wandoor, Shri Uttam Roy, Up Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Wandoor and Smti Sukhalata Pahar, Member. Speaking on the occasion, the Gram Pradhan expressed his happiness and appreciated the efforts of the Department.
