Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 29: The two-day A&N Conference, SANGITI – 2025 (Survey of Andaman & Nicobar Governance Initiatives for Transformative Islands) organized by A&N Administration concluded in the conference hall of DBRAIT today. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, was the chief guest of the valedictory function.
In his brief address, the Chief Secretary said that the two- day conference provided an opportunity to all the officers/officials and stakeholders from different fields to interact with each other and prepare a road map for further improvement in 7 broad schemes such as 1. Tourism, 2. Biodiversity, 3. Mobility, 4. Energy, 5. Strategic Security, 6. (A) Water, 6. (B) Circular Economy, 7.(A) Production Economic- Agriculture, 7. (B) Production Economic-Fisheries. He further urged the officials to work as a team for the meaningful completion of projects.
The Chief Secretary further stated that SANGITI will be a continuous process and day-long conferences will be organized focusing on a particular theme so that more new ideas will emerge for the development of a particular sector.
Summing up the session, the Secretary (Planning), Dr. Aman Gupta touched upon the key highlights of the 7 broad themes presented by different Departments and stakeholders during the two-days conference. Informing about the way forward, Dr. Gupta said that the domain Departments need to devise an implementation plan with specific targets and milestones for each deliverable with indicative timelines.
The valedictory session concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Secretary (Co-ordination), Smt. Pallavi Sarkar.

Andaman Premier League-III Kicks Off with a Grand Inauguration; MP Announces Rs.1 Crore for Cricket Development
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 26:The much-anticipated Andaman Premier League-III T20 Cricket League-cum-Knockout Tournament was inaugurated in a grand ceremony on April 26, 2025, at 7:45 PM at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, Sri Vijaya Puram.
Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, graced the occasion as chief guest and officially declared the tournament open in the presence of officials from the Andaman & Nicobar Cricket Association (ANCA), team owners, and players of the ten participating teams.
In his address, the MP made a significant announcement, stating that Rs.1 crore will be allocated for the development of cricket infrastructure in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He encouraged players to play with sportsmanship and applauded the efforts of ANCA in raising the standards of the tournament.
A special mention was made of ANCA’s initiative to bring qualified and registered umpires from Kolkata, ensuring fair and professional officiating in the matches. This move has been welcomed as a major step toward elevating the credibility and quality of the league.
President of ANCA, Mr. M.H. Jadwet, expressed his gratitude to the MP for his continued support and took the opportunity to request the setting up of an exclusive cricket ground in South Andaman, highlighting the need for dedicated facilities to nurture local talent.
Other key dignitaries present at the ceremony included Shri Girish Arora, Vice President, Shri Nalin Gulech, General Secretary, and Mr. Md. Aslam, Organising Secretary of ANCA, along with other senior members and stakeholders.
The opening event set an enthusiastic tone for the tournament, which promises to deliver high-energy cricket action in the weeks ahead, further boosting the cricketing culture in the islands.
Fishing Sea Shells Banned from May 1 to September 30 in A&N Waters Under Closed Season Rule
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 29: In accordance with the A&N Islands Marine Fishing Rules, 2004 (17 (a) (ii)), the period commencing from 1st day of May to 30th day of September-2025 (inclusive of the day of commencement and day of expiry) shall be closed season for Fishing Sea Shells in A&N Waters.
The fishermen and particularly those who are engaged in extraction of Sea Shell or mollusc have been advised to strictly comply the above closed season for fishing sea shells in N&M Andaman.
Free Chess Summer Camp 2025 for school children across A&N Islands
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 29: The Department of Education, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, will be organizing a Free Chess Summer Camp 2025 for school students across all nine educational zones of the islands. This unique initiative, running from 5th May to 4th June 2025, aims to introduce children to the basics of chess, including basic mates, principles of opening, and simple tactical ideas, while enhancing their focus and analytical skills in a structured yet enjoyable environment.
The camp will be conducted daily from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon at selected venues across the islands. This summer Camp not only serves as a meaningful holiday engagement but is also expected to spark long-term interest in chess among children and help identify budding talents for future inter-school and state-level competitions. Master Trainers will conduct engaging sessions through interactive lessons, hands-on demonstrations, and friendly mini-tournaments, ensuring a fun and effective learning experience for all participants.
Interested students or parents are encouraged to register by contacting the designated coordinators at their respective venues on or before 03.05.2025 to avoid missing out. The details of the coordinators for all zones are as under:

Amrita Minj Wins Gold Medal In Indoor National Rowing Championship – 2025
Sri Vijaya Puram,Apr 29: The Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Team claimed Gold Medal in the Light Weight Women Individual – 2000 m event in the 08th Indoor National Rowing Championship held at Alappuzha, Kerala on 26th April, 2025.
In the event, Ms. Amrita Minj, representing Andaman & Nicobar Islands claimed the top spot in 7 minutes and 51 seconds while Ms. Pooja Kajla from Rajasthan claimed the Silver Medal and Ms. Vismaya Bipin from Kerala secured the Bronze Medal.
President of the Andaman & Nicobar Rowing Association Mr. G. Bhasker has expressed satisfaction over the preparations for the competition and thanked the SAI and Andaman & Nicobar Administration for their support. He emphasized that such games will prove to be a stepping stone for the rowing fraternity.

Art & Culture Department to Publish Book on Nicobarese Folktales and Folksongs; Entries Open Till May 31
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr. 29: With the objective of preserving and promoting the language, customs, and identity of the Nicobarese people, the Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration will soon come up with a book of traditional Nicobarese folktales and folksongs, showcasing the diverse cultural expressions of the Nicobarese community. This vibrant initiative seeks the participation of students, school children, tribal members, and Government servants from the Nicobarese community across various Islands of the Nicobar group. To achieve this objective through crowdsourcing, competitions will be held for students as well as Nicobarese persons of all Islands in the Nicobar District.
The competition will be held in two categories: Stories and Songs. Under the Stories category, participants are invited to submit traditional folk tales, personal anecdotes, myths, legends, etc. In the Songs category, participants can present folk songs, ceremonial songs, lullabies, etc. The competition is open to students from classes 9th-12th from all schools across the Nicobar District, as well as members of the Nicobarese tribe, including Tribal Captains, community leaders, elders, and Government servants. Entries must be submitted in the Nicobarese language, accompanied by translations in English and/or Hindi.
Separate Competitions will be held Sub-Division wise of Nicobar District. The Deputy Commissioner (Nicobar District) will organise these competitions for Car Nicobar Sub-Division, Nancowry Sub-Division and Campbell Bay Sub Division.
The first three winners in each category will be awarded with cash prizes. Top three entries in each category from each Island will receive certificates and cash prizes (Rs 10,000/-, Rs 8,000/- and Rs 5,000/- and 5 Consolation prizes @ Rs 2,000/- respectively. However, all authentic entries will be featured in the book.
The competitions will restart on May, 1, 2025, with the last date for submission of entries being May 31, 2025. This dynamic competition will serve as a platform for the Nicobarese community to share and celebrate their cultural heritage, ensuring that these cherished stories and songs are passed down to future generations. The book containing such folktales and folksongs will be released thereafter.
ICDS Diglipur Raises Awareness on Emergency Helplines Among School Students
Diglipur, Apr. 29: ICDS Project (Rural) Diglipur under Directorate of Social Welfare organized an awareness program on key Helpline services such as Child line – 1098, Police – 100, Fire Brigade – 101 and Ambulance – 102 at PM SHRI Govt. Senior Secondary School, Subashgram, Diglipur offered by GoI. The programme sought to raise awareness among students about helpline numbers for emergency support, safety, mental health, and grievance redressal. This outreach is part of a nationwide effort to strengthen child protection mechanisms and ensure timely assistance is accessible to every young citizen.
Speaking on the occasion, the Child Development Project Officer, Smt. Indira Devi said, “Equipping our children with knowledge about these helplines ensures their safety and mental well-being. It’s a step towards creating a more informed and secure environment for our youth.”
The programme concluded with the distribution of awareness brochures by Ms. N Naseem Bibi, Mukhya Sevika and pledge by students to share the information with peers and family members.
FISHERMEN WATCH GROUP MEETINGS ORGANIZED AHEAD OF “SAGAR KAVACH” EXERCISE BY NORTH & MIDDLE ANDAMAN DISTRICT POLICE
Sri Vijaya Puram,Apr 29: In view of the upcoming “Sagar Kavach” Coastal Security Exercise scheduled to be held on 30/04/2025 and 01/05/2025, the North & Middle Andaman District Police proactively conducted Fishermen Watch Group Meetings across all Police Station jurisdictions in the District.
These meetings aimed to sensitize the fishermen community, enhance coastal vigilance, and strengthen community policing efforts. Fishermen, being the “eyes and ears” along the coastline, were briefed on their critical role in coastal security and were urged to immediately report any suspicious activities, vessels, or movements observed during their fishing activities to the nearest Police Station.
The meetings emphasized real-time information sharing with the police to ensure swift and effective action against any potential threats. Fishermen were also informed about standard protocols for passing intelligence inputs and were assured of all necessary support and protection by the police.
The North & Middle Andaman District Police remain committed to ensuring a safe and secure coastline and seek active cooperation from all stakeholders, especially the vibrant fishermen community, during the “Sagar Kavach” exercise and beyond.
The general public is requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to any crime or illegal activities to their nearest Police Station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
Coastal Security Exercise “Sagar Kavach – SKV 01/25”
Sri Vijaya Puram, Apr 29: A coastal security exercise titled “Sagar Kavach – SKV 01/25” is scheduled to be conducted in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from 30th April and 01st May 2025 involving all 17 security agencies. This exercise aims to validate the coastal security mechanism and coordination between various security agencies.
It is requested that fishermen/ general public carry their I-cards. Fishermen are also requested to carry their relevant documents while at sea. The public must stay alert and report any suspicious activity or movement to Police Marine Force Control Room 1093 or the ERSS 112 Control Room of the A&N Police Department.
The general public is advised not to panic during the period of the exercise and to extend full cooperation to security forces and participating agencies to ensure the success of this important exercise for strengthening coastal security.
