Residents Demand Urgent Action Against Stray Dog Menace in Ward No. 13
Sri Vijaya Puram, June 9: Concerned over the growing threat posed by stray dogs, Mr. M.A. Sajid, State President of NSUI and State Vice President of PYC A&N Islands, has submitted a formal request to the Secretary of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council seeking immediate intervention in Ward No. 13.
In a letter dated June 9, 2025, Mr. Sajid highlighted the increasing attacks by stray dogs on pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, resulting in injuries and widespread panic. “The streets of our ward have become unsafe. Stray dogs are not only attacking residents but are also causing fear among school-going children and senior citizens,” he noted.
According to the complaint, several incidents have been reported where individuals have been chased or bitten by dogs, with some even falling off their bikes while attempting to escape. The situation has worsened due to the absence of any control measures, particularly since the dog-catching van has not visited the area for several years.
“Without proper action, the stray dog population has grown unchecked. There is an urgent need for scheduled visits of the dog-catching van to restore safety and peace in the locality,” Mr. Sajid urged.
The letter ends with an earnest appeal to the administration to take necessary steps to resume dog-catching operations in Ward No. 13 and ensure the safety of residents.
