Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 09: One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an online awareness session on Cyber Security threats and Cyber Laws with the objective to understand common Cyber Security threats.
Mrs. Neela Baidya, Central Administrator, One Stop Centre has welcomed the online audience and introduced the resource person.
The Resource Person, Mr. Sanjay Henry ASI, CID Branch stressed on the importance of the Cyber Security solution by highlighting that growing numbers and sophistication of Cyber threats attacks target users directly and many cyber mishaps stem from a lack of security awareness.
Further, the Resource person has emphasized to audiences on different ways to prevent Cyber Crime, use safe internet security suits, setting of strong passwords at personal level that people are not able to guess, importance of creating & regular changing of password and managing social media. Further, elaborated on common cybercrime such as Email Scams, Social Media Fraud, Banking Fraud, E-Commerce fraud, Data breaches, Lottery Scam, QR code fraud, Online Jobs Scam, bank link share scam and investment fraud. In addition, addressed challenges and threats in cyber security such as not opening suspicious emails from unrecognized senders, not focusing on suspicious links in email or on websites, attachments, not disclosing information, and responding to suspicious emails.
Further, elaborated on the Information Technology Act, 2000 and sections related to Identity theft, cheating by impersonation using computer, publishing obscene material online, Damage to computer system or network and Breach of confidentiality and privacy. During the session he also shared the helpline number for Cybercrime complaints which is 1930.
Ms. Rukhsar Rahim, Para Legal Personnel, One Stop Centre briefed on Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in which elaborated on sections related to cruelty by husband or in laws, dowry death, rape, voyeurism. Further highlighted on Dowry Prohibition Act 1961, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005.
Mrs. Meenal Rajan, Case Worker, One Stop Centre briefed on the objective of One Stop Centre which provides integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence during distress both in private and public spaces. The One Stop Centre facilitates immediate, emergency, non –emergency services access to a range of Services including Medical, Legal , minimum 5 days temporary shelter, Police Assistance, Psychological and Counseling support to fight any forms of violence against women under a single roof. The program was attended by Anganwadi Workers and the general public.

Mangrove Plantation Drive, at Minicoy, Lakshadweep by ICAR-CIARI, RS-Minicoy
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jun 09: The scientific team of ICAR-CIARI Regional Station, Minicoy in collaboration with ICAR-CMFRI, Field Lab, Kavaratti & ISS (New Delhi) organized mangrove plantation drive on 5th and 6th June, 2025in connection with ‘World Environment Day Celebration 2025’. The plantation drive was carried at Eastern side & South Tundi point of Minicoy under the campaign slogan “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution” and aimed at enhancing coastal biodiversity and raising awareness about the importance of mangrove ecosystems. The plantation was done with mangrove varieties like Avicennia (150 nos.), Rhizophora (50 nos.), Bruguiera (200 nos.) (& Kandelia (100 nos.). The plantation drive was conducted in presence of local community leaders, officials from department of forest, Ashaworkers and other stakeholders. Their involvement played a crucial role in spreading environmental consciousness and encouraging sustainable practices within the Island community. This plantation drive reflects a strong collaborative effort towards environmental conservation and aligns with global efforts to combat climate change, restore natural habitats, and reduce plastic pollution.
The scientific team comprising of, Dr. Gladston Y.,Ajina S.M. & Dr. Abdul Azeez along with Mr. Shareefuddeen Hassan (T5) Mr. Arif M.I (T2) conducted the programme under the Chairmanship of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director ICAR- CIARI.
