From Despair to Determination: Anupam Sarkar’s Inspiring Journey through DDU-GKY

June 10, 2025 by Sanjib Kumar Roy Leave a Comment

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 10: Anupam Sarkar, a 35-year-old resident of Chouldari, South Andaman, had once found himself at a difficult crossroads in life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, like countless others, Anupam faced severe hardship. He lost his job and struggled to make ends meet. The situation worsened with the tragic loss of his father, leaving him alone and burdened with grief and uncertainty. Despite persistent efforts, stable employment remained out of reach. This period tested both his resilience and spirit, as he grappled with financial strain and emotional loss.
In a moment of uncertainty, Anupam applied for a DRM post in a Government Office and attended the interview. It was during this process that a panel member, recognizing his interest and potential, suggested he explore the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) — a program that could open new pathways for him.
Encouraged by this advice, Anupam visited his local Panchayat Office, where he received comprehensive guidance about the DDU-GKY scheme. With the support of the officials and the DDU-GKY team, he enrolled in the Rural Mason course under the Padmaranjeeta Education Trust, Odisha.
The training he received extended far beyond technical skills. It transformed his mindset, built his confidence, and equipped him with the tools needed to take charge of his future. Upon completing the course successfully, and with the placement support provided by DDU-GKY, Anupam secured employment in the construction sector in Odisha as a Supervisor. Today, he works as a District Coordinator in Assam. With renewed confidence and hope, Anupam now dreams of starting a family of his own in the near future.
Anupam expresses deep gratitude to the DDU-GKY scheme, the Directorate of Rural Development, PRIs, ULBs, and the dedicated DDU-GKY team in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for their unwavering support. Their collective efforts have transformed his life, providing him with a dignified and sustainable livelihood.
His inspiring journey from joblessness to financial independence stands as a powerful testament to how government programs like DDU-GKY can create meaningful change in the lives of rural youth. Anupam today serves as a beacon of hope for many young individuals to rise above setbacks and pursue a brighter future.
