Port Blair, Aug 11: The 32nd installation ceremony of Inner Wheel Club, Port Blair was held at Hotel Sea Shell Corals Cove, Minnie Bay here yesterday evening. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest lauded the efforts of the members of the Club both past and present and urged them to continue the good work in caring and helping the needy people of these Islands. He lauded the zeal and enthusiasm of womenfolk from different walks of life, who have come together for a common cause to elevate the sufferings of the underprivileged and also for the development of the society through their innovative ideas and perseverance. The Chief Secretary also mentioned about how women have evolved in society over the years and are making significant contributions through various capacities. He also wished the newly installed members good luck in all their endeavours.
In her welcome address, the outgoing President, Ms. Bakhtawar Noble thanked her fellow members for their support in implementing various projects for the underprivileged children, needy women and elderly.
In her address, the newly installed President of the Inner Wheel Club Port Blair for the year 2024-25, Mrs. Neeta Agrawal promised to leave no stone unturned and carry forward the baton in caring for the needy. She also highlighted the theme for this year viz. ‘Heartbeat of Humanity- every beat counts , every action matters’ and sought the support and help of her fellow club members to carry on the work with the same zeal and enthusiasm. She also outlined the plans of the club which will particularly focus on welfare and development of children, women, senior citizens and also creating awareness on various issues.
Mrs. Charu Sreedharan is the new Vice President, Bakhtawar Noble, IPP, Mrs. Pallavi Gupta, Secretary, Priya Krishnan, Joint Secretary, Mrs. Usha Stephen, Treasurer, Rajni Ahuja , ISO and Vaishakhi Khurana, Editor.
The chief guest also released the club bulletin on the occasion. He along with the club member also handed over personal clothing and sanitation kit for girl child inmates of Pranab Kanya Sangh and also felicitated Ms Anuradha Rao, Guide at NSCB Island for her outstanding contribution in serving the community.
A power point presentation on projects during the year was presented by Ms Komal Anand, Past Secretary, IWC.

Procession organized at Pahalgaon against Bangladesh Atrocities

Pahalgaon/Diglipur, Aug 11: In response to the widespread attacks on minorities, in post-Hasina Bangladesh, a protest was held at Pahalgaon yesterday.
Significant crowd of protesters gathered at a place and then they took out a procession which started from Pahalgaon Gram Panchayat Junction and traversed Lal Tikrey Bazaar and then returned to Pahalgaon Gram Panchayat. The procession started at around 05:00 pm. Effigies of Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh’s interim government, & Bangladesh Military heads were reportedly burnt in Lal Tikrey Bazaar. The protesters while marching shouted slogans: “Bangadeshi Hindu ke upar atyachar bandh karo”, “Bangadesh sarkar par dhikkar hai”, “Hindu dharmic stal todna bandh karo”, “Bangladesh sarkar hoshyar”, Bangladesh down down” and “Hindustan Zindabad”. The protests concluded at Lal Tikrey Bazaar at 06:00 pm, the source said.
Atal Foundation Organizes Candle March in Memory of Late Leela Devi
Port Blair, Aug 11: The Atal Foundation, Andaman & Nicobar Unit, organized a solemn candle march today in memory of Late Leela Devi, a dedicated Home Guard of the Andaman & Nicobar Police. The march was led by the State President of the Atal Foundation, Mr. Azizur Rahman, and took place from the National Memorial Cellular Jail to Flag Point.
Late Leela Devi tragically lost her life in the line of duty while bravely attempting to stop an underage boy riding a speeding bike without a helmet. This candle march served not only as a tribute to her courage and sacrifice but also as a call to action for greater awareness of traffic rules and road safety.
The event saw participation from over 100+ individuals, including the general public, personnel from the Andaman & Nicobar Police, and family members of the late Leela Devi. Also in attendance were Mr. Shergill, former Naval Engineer & State President of the Atal Foundation, Chandigarh, and Mr. M Vinod, National Vice President of the Atal Foundation, Mrs. Protima Banerjee, State General Secretary, Atal Foundation. Their presence underscored the importance of the cause and the unity of the community in paying homage to a fallen hero.
The Atal Foundation remains committed to promoting safety and awareness in society and will continue to honor those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
01 More Foreign Poacher Apprehended by N&M Andaman District Police
Port Blair, Aug 11: On 09/08/2024, during the on-going anti-poaching operations in the N&MA District, another foreign poacher was successfully apprehended by the dedicated team near the Gopen Nallah jungle, within the jurisdiction of PS Kalighat.
The anti-poaching team, constituted under the leadership of SI Ashok Baghel, SHO PS Kalighat, and led by ASI Vijay Kumar Ekka, along with HC Suresh Guria and Constables Ajay Das, Arun Dung Dung, Sachin, Sanjay Barla, Suhas Ingle, Anirudh Naik, Joginder, and Sandeep Kumar, has been relentlessly conducting combing operations against foreign poachers since 01/08/2024. As a result of these efforts, one poacher and a dinghy were apprehended on 01/08/2024.
On 09/08/2024, during an extensive and continuing combing operation, the team discovered a poacher hiding in the Gopen Nallah jungle. The team acted swiftly and apprehended him. Due to the poor health condition of the apprehended poacher, he was immediately ospitalized and is currently receiving treatment. Once the poacher is discharged from the hospital, he will be handed over to PS CCS for further investigation. Meanwhile, the anti-poaching team continues its search for more poachers in the area.
This successful operation is a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the anti-poaching team in safeguarding our territory and protecting our rich wildlife resources from foreign intruders. The bravery and commitment displayed by the team have been lauded, and they will be suitably rewarded.
The entire search operation was carried out under the direction of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur and the vigilant supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D) N&MA.

ANCA to host the highly anticipated ‘AICF chess for everyone’ 2nd All-India Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2024
Port Blair, Aug 11: The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) is gearing up to host the highly anticipated ‘AICF chess for everyone’ 2nd All-India Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2024 from August 14th to 18th at Hotel TSG Grand, Dolly Gunj. A press conference regarding the tournament was held on August 10th at Hotel Shompen, Port Blair where key details of the event were shared with the media.
Around 140 players from across India, representing states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, will compete in this prestigious tournament. This diverse and competitive field offers a golden opportunity for unrated players to establish their international FIDE ratings, while rated players have the perfect platform to improve their existing FIDE ratings.
In addition to the competitive excitement, the tournament offers a substantial cash prize of ₹1, 15,000/- along with 40 trophies to be awarded across various categories. This makes it one of the most rewarding chess events in the region.
The tournament will be conducted in a classical format with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment per move, spanning nine rounds over five days. The opening ceremony will kick off the event on August 14th at 9:00 AM, marking the start of a week filled with intense competition and strategic brilliance.

Students Embark on Historical Journey to Cellular Jail as Part of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign
Port Blair, Aug 11: As part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign-2024, the Art & Culture Department, A&N Administration organized a visit of school students from GSSS Manglutan to the National Memorial Cellular Jail on Aug 9, 2024.
As many as 50 students accompanied by 3 Teachers were given a guided tour of the Cellular Jail. They evinced keen interest in knowing the history of the Cellular Jail and about the freedom fighters who were incarcerated in this Jail. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, taking place nationwide from August 9 to 15, 2024, aims to strengthen patriotism among citizens.
Huge Quantity of IMFL Seizes by Police Station Pahargaon
Port Blair, Aug 11: Demonstrating zero tolerance towards bootlegging activities, Police Station Pahargaon conducted a swift and effective excise raid, resulting in apprehension of one individual and seized 92 sealed IMFL bottles.
Upon receipt of credible information regarding storing of huge haul of IMFL behind an abandoned old quarter opposite Shishu Mandir School, New Pahargaon. Acting swiftly, a team was constituted, comprising of HC Sunil Singh Yadav, PCs Ashish Kr. Singh and Santosh Lall and conducted raid behind the old quarter opposite Shishu Mandir School, New Pahargaon and recovered 24 bottles of 750 ml IMFL & 68 bottles of 180 ml IMFL from the possession of R. Bala Murugan S/o Mr. Rama Swamy (39) Yrs, Pvt. Worker R/o Garacharma, Kaju Tikrey. The recovered 92 bottles of sealed IMFL bottles was seized on the spot and apprehended the accused person under relevant section of Excise Regulation.
The entire excise raid took place under the leadership of Insp. Mohd. Elias, SHO, PS Pahargaon under close supervision of Mr. Vikas, IPS, SDPO (S/A) and overall supervision of Mrs. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.

A&N Police Partners with National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat for Enhanced Forensic Capabilities
Port Blair, Aug 11: In a significant move to align with the newly implemented criminal laws of India—namely the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) – 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – 2023—the Andaman & Nicobar Police, under the visionary guidance of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has undertaken a series of proactive measures aimed at enhancing the professional competencies of its workforce, particularly the Investigating Officers.
With the introduction of the New Criminal Laws, a special emphasis has been placed on the collection and utilization of forensic evidence. Recognizing the importance of building the necessary infrastructure and expertise in this area, the Andaman & Nicobar Police has moved swiftly to ensure that its Investigating Officers and Scientific Officers from the Forensic Wing are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to meet these new standards.
As part of its strategy to enhance forensic capabilities, the Andaman & Nicobar Police submitted a proposal to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This prestigious university is a Central Institution established in 2008, is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has been accredited with an “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) is recognized as an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Govt. of India, by an act of the Indian Parliament. NFSU is solely dedicated to Forensic Science, Investigative Science and Criminology.
The proposal received approval from Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, emphasizing the support of this initiative for the A & N Administration. It was pushed by Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, underscoring the administrative support and the strategic importance of this collaboration.
With the approval secured, the Andaman & Nicobar Police is now poised to execute the MoU with NFSU. The signing ceremony, which will formalize this strategic partnership, is scheduled to take place shortly and will be executed between Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Police, and the Campus Director of the National Forensic Sciences University.
This collaboration is expected to significantly bolster the forensic capabilities of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, ensuring that its officers are well-prepared to effectively implement the new criminal laws.
It is also noteworthy that the Andaman & Nicobar Police has recently entered into an MoU with the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, to provide specialized training on the New Criminal Laws to its Investigating Officers. This initiative, along with the forthcoming partnership with NFSU, underscores the commitment of the Andaman & Nicobar Police to continuous professional development and the enhancement of law enforcement standards in the region.
Biking and Trekking Expedition to Saddle Peak Flag-Off Ceremony at Brichgunj Military Station
Port Blair, Aug 11: In the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, patriotism, and unity, the ‘Saddle Peak’ expedition—a biking and trekking journey from Port Blair to Diglipur—was flagged off by
Air Marshal Saju Balakrishan, AVSM, VM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), at Brichgunj Military Station on August 10, 2024.
This expedition covers over 700 km and involves 29 bikers from the Andaman and Nicobar Command, led by Capt. Hrithik Dwivedi of the First Battalion, The First Gorkha Rifles, over eight days. With themes of “Har Ghar Tiranga,” youth awareness, and “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam,” the expedition’s pinnacle will occur on August 15, 2024, when the tricolor will be hoisted at Saddle Peak—the highest peak in the archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands—after a challenging trek. This maiden expedition symbolizes commitment to instilling patriotism in the youth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and encourages them to serve the nation with zeal and enthusiasm. It combines adventure with patriotism and environmental care through
“Ek Ped Maa ke Naam.”

South Andaman Police Hosts “Tiranga Bike Rally” to Celebrate “Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign
Port Blair, Aug 11: In a vibrant display of patriotism and unity, the South Andaman Sub-Division Police organized a “Tiranga Bike Rally” on August 10, 2024, as part of the nationwide “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign. The event aimed to celebrate and promote national pride by encouraging citizens to proudly display the national flag.
The rally began at 4:30 PM from Bhatu Basti and concluded at Flag Point. It was a noteworthy event, drawing active participation from all three police stations under the South Andaman Sub-Division. A total of 30 bikes participated, covering key areas along the route and providing the public with an opportunity to witness and join in this patriotic celebration.
Participants also conveyed the message of safety protocols and traffic regulations to general public by wearning helmets, driving in proper lane and within applicable speed limits.
