Furniture shop owner goes missing

Port Bair, Dec 03: A furniture shop owner of middle Point has gone missing since last 15 days, it is reported. According to reports the furniture shop owner used to sell designer furniture in Middle Point area of Port Blair city. It is believed that the owner of the furniture shop and his wife are untraceable since last 15 days, making those people worried, who had lend money to the shop owner. Police sources have confirmed that till now no one has lodged any FIR yet against the shop owner.
However, the neighbours of the missing shop owners informed that people from bank and others keep on coming in search of the person almost everyday, only to find locked doors. Even the shop at Middle Point remains locked and mobile phones unreachable.

Conference of ‘Sangeet Sankalp’

Port Blair, Jan 03: The Andaman Unit of Sangeet Sankalp, a pan Indian society promoting classical music in India, has been invited to attend the 11th biannual All India conference which will be organized by Sangeet Sankalp, Faizabad branch from Feb. 4 to 6, 2012 at Faizabad, Ayodhya.
Around 150 delegates from all over India will be attending this conference which shall have interactive session where all the 104 centres shall share their experience and put forth ideas for furthering the aims & objectives of this movement in national integration through propagation of Indian classical music. There shall also be seminars, lectures, demonstration and recitals by renowned artists every day. ITF to be telecast live on DD Bharthi channel

Port Blair, Jan 03: The inaugural function of Island Tourism Festival will be telecast live in DD (Bharthi), National Channel of Doordarshan onJan 5, 2011from6 pmto7.30 pm. This is the first time that ITF is getting a national live coverage. Subsequently, a 22 minute report on ITF will be aired in DD-National. DD-Bharthi signals reach 32 countries inAsiaandEurope.

Apart from this, ITF will be given live coverage on other week days from6 pmto7.30 pmby DDK, Port Blair in the terrestrial channel, a communication received from DDK, Port Blair said.

BJP to hold Nation Wide Week Long Campaign

Port Blair, Jan 03: On receiving a call from the National Head quarters in connection with Nation wide week long campaigning programme of “Save Democracy and Remove Congress”, a meeting was called in the premises of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Bhavan under the leadership of R Mohan, Party President.

The main speakers were Mr. R Mohan, Smti Sheela Singh, Councillor and senior most leader Shri L Moorthy, State Cashier, R P Moses, State President, Minority Morcha, Smti Anusia Devi, State President of Mahila Morcha, Mohammed Raffi, Prabhari Yuva Morha, K Paramssivam, State President BJYM, Reynold S, President of Bharatiya Janata Maha Sangh and Deepak Kr Jha, State General Secretary. The final programme will be chalked out tomorrow to organise Islands wise campaigning.

Island Tourism Festival to open on Jan 5

Port Blair, Jan 03: The opening ceremony of the Island Tourism Festival 2012 will be held at the ITF Ground, VIP Road, Port Blair on 5th January 2012 at 1800 hours.
The Lt Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM will be the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Shakti Sinha will preside and the Hon’ble MP, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray will grace the occasion as guest of honour.

BJP demands feasibility study for Bambooflat Bridge

Port Blair, Jan 03: Mr Mohan, The State President of BJP has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to direct the ALHW to conduct a feasibility study about construction of a bridge connecting Chatham and Bambooflat Islands.
The request came from the side of BJP after a letter was received by the Party from the Executive Engineer, ALHW on the issue of constructing a bridge connecting Chatham and Bambooflat wherein it was written that “It is pertinent to mention here that the above project if to be taken up shall be capital intensive and detailed feasibility studies need to be carried out. These studies can be taken up by ALHW after receipt of directions from the A&N Administration after a policy decision is made.”

Baby show at ITF Ground on Jan 10

Port Blair, Jan 03: During Island Tourism Festival 2012, Directorate of Health Services will be organizing a baby show at ITF Ground on Jan 10, 2012 at 3.00 pm onwards among the kids of different age groups viz 6 months to 1 year, 1 year to 3 years 3 years to 5 years.
The prize money for this competition will be Rs. 1500/-, Rs. 1000/- & Rs. 700/- for first second and third respectively for every age group. Interested parents may bring their kids for participation at 3.00 PM at ITF Ground on Jan 10 with immunization and antenatal cards if available, a communication from the Dy. Director (FW &HE) said here today.

Mohan requests financial assistance for Late Hema Rao’s Mother

Port Blair, Jan 03: Mr. R Mohan has requested the Lt. Governor to of A & N Islands to sanction financial assistance to the mother of Late S Hema Rao, who lost his life on 22nd December 2011, following an dinghy accident at high sea because of cyclonic weather, caused by Cylcone Thane.

The body of Hema Rao was found on 29th December 2011 near Madhuban area of South Andaman. On visit to Panighat to meet family members of S Hema Rao, Mohan had found that the widow mother leading a very poor life and after death Hema Rao, the breadwinner of the family.

On this ground Mr. Mohan has requested the Lt. Governor to release some financial assistance for the mother of Late Hema Rao, from Lt. Governor’s relief fund. Mr. Mohanas also requested the Chief Secretary to consider another financial assistance from the Disaster Management Fund as the accident occurred due to cyclonic weather, which is a natural calamity.

Food Processing Training on Marine and Coconut based Products

Port Blair, Jan 03: UNNATI working in the field of self-employment in association with Agriculture, Fisheries, Industries NABARD, ITI decided to organize food processing training on Marine and Coconut based products at Stewartgunj on 03.01.2012 considering the enthusiasms and interest shown by young energetic and dynamic Pradhan Mr. P.A. Aziz who has full support of the people to carryout any development works in his Panchayat. In fact, the entire Inaugural function was organized by Stewartgunj Panchayat with our association only.

Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma Chairman A&N State Co-operative Union was the Chief Guest and Mr. S. Athirstavel General Manager NABARD was the guest of honor.

Mr. P. A. Aziz, Pradhan Gram Panchayat welcomed the gathering and participants. Mr. C. Mohammed president UNNATI gave brief account of the food processing project being implemented in these Islands with the support of Eni-India Ltd / ONGC.
Mr. M.A. Salam Director Agriculture explained in details the various assistance available and additional facilities going to provide for popularizing coconut based products. Mr. Ajit, Assistant Director, Industries elaborately explained about assistance available from Industries Department for setting up food processing unit. He said the department is actively involved with UNNATI for popularizing food processing in these Islands and department is extending its full support for its successful implementation. He said that department is jointly organizing food processing training programme in North & Middle Andaman.

Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, A & N State Coop. Union highly appreciated the efforts of UNNATI for their initiative to generate employment opportunities. He also appreciated Mr. P.A.Aziz, Pradhan to mobilize people and taking active interest to provide benefit of food processing to the residents of Stewartgunj Panchayat. Mr. Ravinder Rao, General Manager, A & N State Coop. Bank , Dr. Krishna Moorthy, Director Industry, Ms. Mariam Bibi Zilla Parishad member, Mr. S.Athirstavel General Manager NABARD also spoke on the occasion.
